Concerns about getting hired as a new Jacksonville, FL grad

Published

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on which hospital is most likely to hire new grads in Jacksonville, Fl. I was wodnering if I should just apply in ST. Aug, Gainesville, or Ocala or something. Please let me know what you think. :)

I wish I had that answer because I would know what to do as well! Some of what I have heard: OP has a NG program but they make you sign a 2 yr contract not to leave or pay a $$$ penalty. Some of our clinical instructors have helped get some of the recent grads into local hospitals (Mayo was one). During our OB rotation there was a peds nurse who stated that she and some of her classmates went to the VA in Gainesville for a year before coming back as an experienced RN.

When you think about it....we have JU, UNF, FSCJ, Keiser, Concord, Sanford-Brown, and Chamberlain cranking out NGs every few months.....we would need to have more hospitals to accomodate all that! I know that there are 2 hospitals planned soon, but neither one has started construction yet.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

You should apply everywhere. It's hard to find a job as a GN....Trust me!! And don't just apply to hospitals...apply to office jobs, SNF, nursing homes, etc. Some specialy offices may even start the pay at a hire rate than hospitals...trust me on this. I'm a GN and I left after the hospital after my training program. Went to a temporary specialty office and I was payed more than hospital. I'm currently waiting to hear back at a SNF, who pays more as well.

This problem is world wide not just where you live no place is hiring. If you find a company that is hiring they have so many applicants that you don't have a chance not even for an interview I just got my degree after working as an LPN for 7 years and guess what LPN experience does not count. I transitioned into the role as an RN at the nursing home I worked at while I was going to school I hate but it's paying my bills I'm really trying to get into a hospital you'll probably have to take anything until you can get where you really want to be Good Luck to you

Thanks...is it a bad thing to sign a 2 year contract with the hospital in OP as a NG?

Some people might disagree, but I would say NO, it's not a bad thing if that's what gets you the job.
