Surrendering RN Scope!
Well my thoughts on this are more patient focused rather than reimbursement. I've seen this given as a way to regulate blood sugars in diabetics which I was once told that ensure can give a false high. The other part of this is some renal and liver patients may not be able to metabolize ensure as well due to the increased carbs proteins and fat that is in it and doctors would like to now when nurses are giving those type of supplements to their patients.

Thought I would have a job by now. Getting depressed
The nursing shortage is on hold due to the crash in the economy. The older nurses who need and should retire are not because they're the higher wage earner or the only wage earner in their household. The other part of it is many nurses who were part time became full time for the same reason. The ANA which I am a member of states that once the older nurses retire there will be loads of jobs for nurses across the board.

Everyone wants to be a nurse...
Well I've been in healthcare for a while. I was first a CNA. I did that for several years then I thought it was back breaking and no matter where I worked it we were always short staffed the pay wasn't the best but if I worked an extra shift or two I was good. I tried getting a industrial job I can remember in the interview the guy told me that I should stick with nursing because that was the only experience I had. I thought ok well I'll do the LPN program it'll pay more and less physical well I was an LPN for even longer than I was an CNA conditions were still the same except I wanted to work more in a hospital or clinic. I wanted to get more experience and have more opportunity to do more within the healthcare field. Now I'm a RN and I'm still searching. Patient care doesn't change. Having feelings of compassion and empathy doesn't change. I've been in healthcare for almost 15 years and sure sometimes I feel like I don't get paid enough to deal with all the personalities from patients doctors families and other coworkers but at the end of the day I feel good knowing I did the best I could do to help the people I care for and most of them are appreciative and that's what matters the most. I always say to myself I have to think about what I'm doing and why I'm doing it then I say money is not everything.

"No nurses of color....."
Just as others have posted, I would suggest you let another nurse take care of him/her. I wouldn't take it personal. There are still quite a few people who discriminate but their are twice as many that don't with that being said use your compassion and caring profession towards other patients who will appreciate you and not judge you by the color of your skin. You need to keep your confidence and stay professional and allow someone else to deal with that patient. Keep smiling and know that you did the best you could for that patient within your power.:loveya:

To the unemployed new grads... what ARE you doing?
I know what u r saying. I'v been applying to so many employers for the last six months and I still do not have a job not even an interview. One employer did call me and gave me a mini interview over the phone but that was it. Nothing further just we'll keep your application on for file for six months if it matches our needs we'll give you a call. It's so hard these days to find a good nursing job. I'm starting to panic cuz I have student loans I have to pay. I hope something gives soon.

never give up on nclex!
Hey Luke Don't beat your self up about it. That exam is terribly difficult. I waited six months after I graduated before I scheduled to take the exam. I wanted to make sure I was ready and I gave my self time to review some areas of nursing that I just didn't get when I was in the program. I was determined to pass on the first try and I did. Here's some words of encouragement take your time read through the material and understand what the question is asking in the town I live in they have a testing prep program called Kaplan I hear it's expensive and it helps you break down the question. I'm sure you will make it because you sound determined just know that you will pass and stay postive. God Bless

Apply now or wait for RN license?
Apply now! Apply to as many places as you can online and in person, the sooner the better beat the competition. Employers may not respond as quick as you would like but stay positive, if you have a resume get that circulating even though I was told most places don't even look at resumes I don't know. Keep your confidence up and know that there is a position out there that you will like and will be a fit for you even though it may not be the first position you get take it get your experience and move on you have to choose your destiny the sky is the limit good luck and god bless you.:anpom:

Excelsior Students- how did you pay for it?
Hey in Illinois that program is not considered a legitimate nursing program you have to show proof you have worked 2yrs in a clinical setting before they let you receive a license in that state.

Concerns about getting hired as a new Jacksonville, FL grad
This problem is world wide not just where you live no place is hiring. If you find a company that is hiring they have so many applicants that you don't have a chance not even for an interview I just got my degree after working as an LPN for 7 years and guess what LPN experience does not count. I transitioned into the role as an RN at the nursing home I worked at while I was going to school I hate but it's paying my bills I'm really trying to get into a hospital you'll probably have to take anything until you can get where you really want to be Good Luck to you
