I start an FNP program in January at a local state university and was also thinking about a surface pro 3. After testing them out, I'll probably get the 2 in 1 HP tablet/laptop combo. It's cheaper with better specs, battery life aside. The keyboard for the surface pro is expensive and flimsy, IMO.
I go to Graceland University in KC. I use my desktop with the big monitor at home. At one of my clinicals, I get to use their EMR and they even let me have my own desk to chart on so I use that there. At another clinical site they won't let me use their EMR so I take my iPad 2 which is pretty old but it is great for using uptodate and epocrates. I pay for both of those services and it is important for me to get the latest, EBP info. ePocrates (the subscription version) provides differential diagnoses which is important to show your preceptor what your differentials quickly. Subscribing to these two services also shows my preceptors I am serious about learning and using the latest information.
I am going to look into the 2 in 1 by HP. I will receive my iPhone 6 Plus within 2 weeks and I found a review of it as a work tool to consider. See http://www.zdnet.com/iphone-6-plus-half-of-a-very-portable-work-system-7000035265/
I am thinking about using a Surface Pro 3 With FNP school at Samford University for the Spring. Three Questions. What school do you attend, what kind of computer do you use and why. I thought the Surface pro 3 would be nice for papers and research at home but at clinical site for taking notes. It would be also light weight for travel. What are yall's thoughts.
That looks like a good idea. I will be attending school an hour away from home. I may look into this.
