I am just curious as to what tests are done with a Complete Metabolic Profile. ?? If anyone can tell me I would be most appreciative. Thanks

Thank you, beano !! I had not dealt with lab tests much in the last 15 years, and when I went to draw this one,I was curious.

Thanks, Jacci

Don't know where you are in VA, but here a CMP is a Panel 12, which contains glucose, lytes, bun, cr, and ca--I think.

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

Complete Metabolic Panel (CMP) is old SMA 12 and includes Sodium (NA), Potassium (K), CLoride (CL), Glucose(GLU), Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Creatine (Cr), Calcium (CA), Total Protein (TP), Albumin (Alb), Total Billirubin (TBilli), Alkaline Phosphotase (AP), transaminase (AST).

Basic Metabolic Panel(BMP) is old SMA7: NA, K, CL, Carbon Dioxide (CO2), GLU, BUN, CR

If fasting specimen indicated, that must be written seperately or identified on the lab slip.

Any blood work questions, feel free to contact me as former IV homecare nurse.

Thank you so much, NRSKarenRN... I really appreciate your taking the time to spell it out for me. I do remember the SMA12, but it had been so long since I dealt with it that I had forgotten what all tests it involved. you have solved my problem now, and I will write it down for future reference

Thanks, Jacci
