COMPASS e-write anyone?

I just got passed up in the lottery for the nursing school of my choice (only took 90 of 906 applicants so I don't feel too bad). Now I'm applying to different schools and am looking at taking the COMPASS e-write soon. I've never had a problem with writing when I can sit and stare at my computer for several hours and search for ideas, but writing on the spot isn't a strong point for me.

Has anyone had to take this, and if so, what types of questions can I expect??

Thanks in advance!!

Corrie

p.s. anyone else out there facing the impossibility of getting into a nursing school in the Portland, OR metro area?

I took the compass test that included the e-write section, last summer. The choice that I had to write about was: "Write a letter to your School board, explaining if you are for, or why you are against all year around schooling and explain why." I can't remember the second choice, it was another explain your view type of question though. It was very simple. The test evaluates your basic grammar , spelling and punctuation ect. Don't stress about it at all. I've never heard of any one failing it. Good luck!

Dear Corrie,

I too missed out of the lottery last Thursday. Blessedly, I am admitted to Clark in March and have a good chance at OHSU and Linfield. Anyhow, about the e-write, there are no practice exam that I know of. Most people pass it. I do know of one gal who did not but it only costs $5 to retake it at CCC and there is no cap. The hardest thing about CCC in their NET exam. The English portion is difficult.

Best of luck to you!

PS. Did you hear that there is the same number applying to OHSU and Mt Hood said they had about 1000 applicants. Yipe!

Congratulatins on Clark! Sadly, as a single mom, my grades haven't been as stellar as they could have so my chances at Linfield and OHSU are slim...but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Also trying for Clark but missed the first deadline so that app will be mailed this week-after two Walters midterms and my NET and compass. ugh. Going back to retail management is almost sounding tempting right about now but I'm not that insane yet.

Good luck with Linfield and OHSU!!

Hi Corrie,

Just a quick question. What is the Compass e-write, I've never heard of it? Thanks, SusanNC

It's a test some schools require for entrance. You go in, they give you a subject to write an essay on, then you get 45 minutes to write. It's graded on computer right then and there.

HTH!
