commute to UCH from...

Published

Hi people I start the 19th at UCH as a new grad, and I'm looking at a few areas to live. I'm not familiar with the traffic on 36/25/70 during nursing commute hours.

I would be doing mixed night and day shifts.

What is the commute like from..

South Westminster by 36?

Sunnyside neighborhood in Denver?

South end of Thornton?

Thank you!

From Westminster, the commute in the AM is about 25-30 minutes. After 7:30 pm it would be about the same. If you worked nights, your commute to work will be a little longer (36/270/70 still tend to be backed up from the after-work crowd) - maybe 30-35 minutes. Driving home in the AM, expect about 30 minutes.

From south end of Thornton, you should probably add about 5 minutes to your time - the only good way out of Thornton is I-25, which tends to be pretty ugly.

THe major backup is along 270, from I-25 to Quebec, and coming from Aurora, from where 270 branches off from 70, up to Quebec again. And then the on-ramp getting onto I-25 tends to get pretty backed up, although it probably isn't as bad at 7:30pm as it is when I pass it at 5:30.

Hey Cardioverter, welcome to Colorado. I too will be in the UCH new grad cohort on 2/19. Stoked!

Sunnyside would be a straight shot on i70 East to i225 south. I'd guess about 20 minutes. Traffic can get congested at the intersection of 70 and 25 but isn't too bad before and after rush hour. I live in Capitol Hill and it takes me about 15 minutes to get to UCH through the city. If you live in a hood' around Denver there are plenty of options to get there besides the highway.

The traffic is awful. Look at the mass transit routes and use them. Check into bike paths, Denver has some really great ones but I don't know if they connect out that far.
