Community health clinicals

Hi fellow nurses,

I am looking for an RN to take me under their wing and precept me during the summer for clinicals. I need 90 hours at a school or local health department in the St. Petersburg / Tampa, FL area. If anyone is willing to precept me I would greatly appreciate it!! I am attending ISU's LPN to BSN distance program. I am an LPN that currently works at a local hospital in the emergency department and am in my second to last semester of school for my BSN.

Wishing you the best of luck on your quest for a preceptor. In my part of the country, "independent" clinical rotations are just not happening any longer because organizations are unwilling to assume the associated liability exposure and costs. Basically, no student rotations at all unless the school has a qualified faculty person on site & we have a contract with the school. Rare exceptions have been granted if the student is an employee.

Based on my own personal knowledge, this is a growing problem. Students are assured by the online program "no sweat, you can do clinicals in your own area" but the school expects the student to arrange everything. They need to be more truthful with potential students about the difficulty they are going to face.
