Does anyone have any idea what the CCP nursing uniforms are like? I noticed my letter says we will be fitted for them.

The prerequisite courses for applying to the nursing program include:

1. High school Biology or its equivalent (Biology 106 or 101)*

2. High school Chemistry or its equivalent (Chemistry 110)*

3. Two years of college preparatory high school math or its equivalent (Math 017) or placement into Math 118.*

*These courses must have been completed within the past ten (10) years with a grade of C or better or be completed by January 31.

You don't need ENG 101 & 102 to apply--though you will take them during the program. My recommendation is to take whatever you can now--it will lessen your load later.

Good luck.

thank you sooo much your the bestt!!!! so r u from philadelphia. nd r u working as a nurse yet?

No problem. I was accepted at CCP but declined their offer. No I'm not a nurse yet, I'll be a junior at LSU. I'm in their BSN program...I'll graduate after the end of fall 2011.

ohh kool. thanks great good luckk!!!! by the way do u think community is good scchool for nursing.? and what the test on to get in isnt it like a speed test to see how fast u are? is math and english on it?

Yes CCP has a very good program...they've been a Center of Excellance for awhile. Even people who are not local are trying to get in which makes it that much more competitive. As far as the AHT exam, it's easy basic stuff...but it's all about speed. I guess they want to see how fast you think. Quite a few people were unable to finish the sections (myself included)--but I guess I still did well enough lol. So don't worry too much about it--the

content isn't that deep.

The more of the corequisites you can take before starting the program, the fewer classes you have to take during the program. And since you have a year from when you first apply to the program to when you start, I would get as many of them out of the way as possible.

Get the English classes out of the way, because there are a lot of classes you can't register for unless you are ready to be placed in 101. You'll also need the intro math to be able to take Math 118 in the program and you'll need Math 118 to be able to take Statistics for Science which IIRC is a requirement in the nursing program.

You've been placed in Eng 099 and Math 017 because you didn't test on a college level, so I would not look at them as unnecessary but as essential to your future success in school.

I suggest you look at the information on the website that is available, and be sure to attend an application orientation as soon as they are available (sometime in October usually). The orientation answered many of my questions about the program and is mandatory to apply for the program. They go over everything you need, explain the point system in more detail and what determines what type of student you are applying as (high school, some college, Bachelor degree or current CCP student). They explain the AHT and what sorts of things you need to be sharp on to do well (grammar, reading comprehension, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, word problems, decimals and fractions) and there's an opportunity to ask questions specific to your situation.

thank you soo much for your help!!! yeah i havnt heard anything bout the orentation but i will ask. im regiesterd for eng 99 nd math 017 this sept. so i can place in to 101 eng and math 018.nd then i guess i can register for like eng 102 and bio and chem rite?? it feels like so much work haha. but they told me i need a humanitie too ,so from the list they gave me i i decided to take spanish class, because they were all mostly langages.. did u need to take one of them?

r u in community's nursing program?

oh okk kool.. i got ya yeah im pretty fast thinker.. ha

I was just taking prereqs at CCP, but IIRC for any program you will need electives to graduate so it would make sense to need some humanities classes.

Spanish is a good thing to know as a nurse- I think the school also offers spanish sections for students going in to healthcare.

The office that handles scheduling the nursing orientations is on the 2nd floor of the west building near the escalators. They won't have a schedule yet, but you can start checking in late September.

It is a lot of work, lol...but the prereqs are just the beginning!

You don't have to take Spanish as your humanities requirement--a lot of people want to take Spanish as being bilingual looks great on a resume. But unless you plan on taking four semesters of it--you won't be anywhere near bilingual. To be perfectly honest, I would leave the humanities stuff till last and focus on the "more important" stuff like english, math, and science. In the event you don't get into CCP, those are the prereqs that other schools are going to be looking at--not stuff like art history.
