Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) Accelerated May 2022 Start

Published

Hey all,

I loved coming here when I was searching my nursing programs and looking at others experience in the application process.  I have not seen any posts yet for CCPs upcoming accelerated nursing class.  So here I am starting a post so people applying or those who have already been accepted can start to meet each other and offer advice.

I just got my acceptance letter and cannot wait to get started! Class of 2023!

Woof, I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. I had a moment of panic at the testing center because they weren't sure if I registered in the correct "new" link? Luckily it worked out, but it was definitely not the energy I wanted to carry into an exam! It's great to hear that you're taking a course this Spring and they're cool with that - who provided the approval in writing? The select program email address is clearly sick of me, they keep passing me off to random professors hahaha. But it would be nice to know who is actually in charge of things or making these decisions. I just want a little transparency! Now they're saying that if the challenge exam doesn't work out and I need to take the course in the Spring that's fine, but that I may as well take a higher level math course if I want to pursue my BSN someday. I'm assuming that would be stats based on the prerequisites for ABSN programs... I am also still considering applying to Jefferson, their app isn't due until Feb 15 and all I would need is the statistics class. I really don't want to take on a ton of debt right now, which was why I had picked the CCP route, and the idea of not being able to work part-time outside of school for a year is also stressful. But it would be nice to be in a program where people respond to my emails! LOL. I haven't looked into the other community colleges - I took many of my prerequisites at Bucks County Community College though because I was living up there at the time. Now that I'm back in Philly, I hadn't really considered that option. I also wanted a program that was more accelerated (either ASN or ABSN). But my limited experience at BCCC was pretty positive, especially when it came to communicating with the admissions and transcript offices. I saw your other comment about the employee directory, thank you for sharing! The guy I'm currently emailing with (------------------------) doesn't have a number listed there, but I will keep this tool in mind for whoever I have to pester next ?

------------------------------ is who stated that was okay to do. Stats sucks so bad that it may be worth putting off until someone else (your future employer) pays for it. And I had the same issue! There was no email prior saying "look out for exam registration", it literally looked like junk mail to me. She refused to let me take it that day but called me back 2 hours later saying they can allow me to take it later that day...yet when I took it yesterday they let people register and sit for the exam!

Same here with the debt. Would it be Jefferson east falls or the center city campus? I attended the east falls campus, it was a pretty good experience! Cafeteria is beautiful LOL.

Oh okay, I emailed with (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) at one point about something ? it seems like they are splitting up applicant questions amongst a group of administrators and professors. OMG if they had made me leave the testing center over the link I would've absolutely lost it. That's so incredibly frustrating. Good idea re: stats! I was trying to look into whether or not stats is a prerequisite for the RN-to-BSN programs, or if it's often included within the curriculum of those programs. Do you have any sense? I would apply to the center city location, I have a friend who did it and said it was fine even with expected annoyances and disorganization haha. Even if I could work one shift a week outside of school it would feel better than nothing to help stay afloat. I know my friend picked up per diem medical assistant shifts during the program, but I think it was only once or twice a month on Saturdays.

I believe stats is a req for most BSN programs since it's a lot of evidence based research and writing. I know for a fact penn state requires it as a prereq for a foundational nursing class. Oooo that's good to hear about your friend's experience. The Jefferson program cost is giving me heart palpitations though!! What was the schedule like for her? I was honestly going to work during this program since it's 4 days a week. At least a shift or two as a per diem hospital PCT.

Hey taco_belle,

Did you ever land on where you wanted to attend? I was accepted to CCP! Haven't heard next steps yet but was curious if you chose CCP. Hope all is well!

Hello,

I recently applied and want to know about how long did you hear if you got accepted? and was it mail or email?
