Common Correctional Nursing Interview Questions

Specialties Correctional Nursing Q/A

I'm collecting a compendium of Interview Questions and best answers for folks prepping for a correctional nursing job interviews. Could you chime in with yours even if you might have posted elsewhere on this forum? It would be good to have them all in one place for newbies searching this site.

Thanks for all the time and effort you spend helping new correctional nurses learn the ropes!

The only specific question I can remember from my interview (at a 500-bed, mixed gender county jail) was something along the lines of "what do you see yourself doing professionally in five years?" I also vaguely remember getting some questions about my ability to independently problem-solve.

Hello,

I just went throught the interview for one of the prisons in S. Cali. there were 5 questions:

1)Describe your experience, training, skills, education in the field of nursing

2)Case scenario: respiratory distress

3)Case scenatio: MI

4)Case scenario:CHF

5)Case scenario:Abd pain unspecified

For the most part they wanted assessment, interventions, nursing diagnosis

The interview was scheduled at 14:00, 3 hrs later I finally got to go in and complete the nerve wracking 5 Q's which took 10min. They told me it would take 2 weeks for response, 4 days later they called me to tell me I got the job. Im happy.....Good luck to everyone

Thank you to everyone for posting their interview questions and experiences. I am an LPN of 6 years that has an interview tomorrow at Stateville in Illinois. This post has helped me prepare for potential questions and scenarios I can expect. I've never worked in corrections but I have worked psych and in public health for awhile. I will be sure to post about my interview tomorrow so hopefully it can help someone in the future the ways you guys have helped me. :)

When it was my turn to ask ? I was well prepared, thanks to all nurse.com!! What kind of training will I get? They loved that & it's great, just great. I also asked the usual: what is their time frame, what are my perceived weaknesses, what can I do to get the job.. etc...

I was halfway to my car when I heard my name over the loudspeaker asking me to come back. I was HIRED!!! :lol2::yeah: It was a week later before the actual dollar offer came in. It is hands down the highest salary I could get in this area as a new grad. And.. state benefits!! Wow am I blessed!

I didn't know you can ask them those questions

New grad, LVN here. I'm so thankful I found this thread! I have an interview on Monday morning for our county jail. I'm still nervous but will be so much more prepared now that I've read every-single-page of this.

Thanks so much all!

Good luck on that interview, Lisa! Glad we are of help. Let us know how it goes.
