I've been accepted to the midwifery programs at both Columbia and Yale and am having such a hard time trying to decide. I live in New Haven already so I know what the city is like, but I love the idea of NYC. I love that Columbia offers a dual specialty in midwifery and WHNP. Anybody have thoughts about these schools?? I haven't heard much about either. Thanks!

im waiting to hear from columbia but i got into yale, and i have an interview at penn next week, and im wondering the same thing! problem is i live in NYC right now and my fiance works at a job he loves in brooklyn that he is committed to for next year, so i think ill wind up at columbia out of convenience...but i like the fact that they offer the dual degree as well.

but im bummed because i am so sick of spending clinical time/working in higher-risk, urban teaching hospitals...i like penn a lot because they offer opportunities to work with homebirth midwives and birth centers too.

I understand the location factor as well. My boyfriend lives in New York and really wants to stay. But when I compared Columbia and Yale, I found that even without the location factor, I think Columbia is the best choice for me. I spoke with the director who said that there are a few home birth opportunities for the "integration" part of your last semester. Yes, there are mostly large hospitals but I think that Yale is much the same. Are you already an RN or are you applying to the ETP program?

im an RN..are you?

i didnt realize columbia has homebirth options for integration--i have to call them tomorrow to ask some questions, like if you can design your own integration or if it has to be at one of their placements...

right now im thinking SUNY Downstate is so affordable, i might end up there...but i have to put together an app before april 15th eek..assuming their program isnt already full.

There are a few threads over in the Graduate Student Forum that you might want to check out. There are quite a few on the various benefits of Columbia vs Yale vs...etc. Good luck.

Hello, I am planning on applying to midwifery programs after graduating with my BSN and working for a little bit. My question for those who have already been accepted is what school you previously went to, what was your GPA, and what the application process was like?

Good luck and congrats!! :)

I went to Georgetown for undergrad but when I graduated I also completed some pre-reqs at my state school. My undergrad and post-grad GPA was around a 3.5.

Application due: end of October (three page essay, three letters of recommendation, general app form)

Offered/Denied interview: mid-December

Interview: end of January

Final Decisions: mid-February

If you want any details, feel free to send me a message :)
