I just wanted to make a space for people to share their application progress for Columbia University CRNA program for Summer 2016. I see that last year people started getting notified about interviews the second week of November. Good luck! (but not too much since I'm applying too ;-)

Did you get an interview spot? When?

They are definitely still interviewing. They said that no decisions will be made until mid to late December.

Yeah I emailed them a couple of days ago and they said my application is still being reviewed. Still, I'm kinda worried because it's taking them so long just to grant me an interview. I dunno if it's because I finished my application exactly on the due date. Btw can you tell me a little bit more about the Skype interview? I'm from Houston so I'm assuming they may do Skype interviews with me.

I got invited for an interview on the 16th of December. Im currently working in the CCU since march of this year and applied while work towards my 1 year ICU requirement per advice of a few of my CRNA friends. I also have 2 years ER in a level 1 trauma Center and 4 years OR experience. I also work per diem PACU/OR on the side. While these experiences don't count towards the ICU requirement I was told that they like to see diverse applicants which is why I went ahead and applied before having 1 solid year. I also worked really hard on my essay and had strong references from a CRNA and Orthopedic surgeon I used to work with in the OR as well as my current NM on the unit. No CCRN and my GRE wasn't the best but they don't base applications solely on numbers alone from what I've heard. Good luck on interviews everyone and I hope to hear good things from mine as well!

Ok I have to say I'm slightly jealous. Lol my experience is 2 1/2 years tele/step down unit. And currently 2 1/2 years in a CVICU with a pretty high acuity patient population (LVAD's, syncardia's, ECMO's etc). GRE's aren't great either but I have my CCRN plus my CSC (cardiac surgery certification). I hope they respond soon cuz I'm getting real discouraged.

and i also have pretty good recommendations from an intensivist that works on my unit, my unit director, and a charge nurse. just out of curiosity, what was your overall GPA? i have feeling my 3.39 gpa might be not be enough. if so I'll have to take grad courses to bring it up and apply again next year =\

I would say that you have pretty good experience working in the CVICU. I actually initially interviewed for a position in the CVICU in the hospital I work for being that my background is surgical but they didn't want to hire me from the OR and recommended me to the CCU instead due to not having any prior ICU. Our patients here are pretty high acuity and unstable as well. We get them broken and then after surgery they go upstairs to CV and we get the MICU patients too. I was going to try again for CV after a year but I was told that the CCU is sufficient ICU experience for schools. I graduated with a 3.59 UG so pretty average and I plan on sitting for my CCRN in March. The only thing with Columbia they require Organic Chem as a pre-req so I am getting ready to enroll in that course too. Have you already taken organic?

I actually did! Last semester and I aced the class. So where's my interview?? lol and I knew my experience is pretty good that's why I highlighted it in my resume. It just sucks that my GPA wasn't that great. They did mention on the website that they understand if we have a low gpa that we were probably at a different maturity level which is totally true in my case. Nothing left to do but pray.

Thats great! And yes I will do the same. The interview doesn't guarantee admission! Out of all the places I applied I didn't think I would hear back from Columbia and it being the first school to reach out to me at that! And yes that's all we can do is pray! Where did you take your organic class? How long has it been since you took Gen Chem? Did you find that you needed to remember Gen Chem in order to be successful in organic? Good luck, I hope you hear something from them!

Well the only chemistry class I took prior to taking O chem was in 2004...and it was just general chemistry. So yes it was extremely difficult. Having to relearn the basics while learning new, difficult topics was hard. There were a lot of long nights reading and watching khan academy videos over and over again to finally get the concepts...it was a very miserable semester. lol but I pulled it off. Hopefully your experience won't be so bad.

Has anyone heard from Columbia recently? According to the admissions office once your application is reviewed they email you an invitation to interview or a rejection. This would mean if you haven't heard, your application hasn't yet been reviewed. Can anyone confirm that they notify you if they aren't moving forward with your application? I was under the impression that all interview invitations would be sent by now so just want to make sure I don't have false hope (since I haven't heard anything)... Thanks!

I haven't heard anything myself. They emailed me saying that they're still reviewing my application but that was 2 weeks ago. =\ in anyone's opinion, should we email them again asking about the status of our application? I really don't like being kept in limbo here. I'd rather know if I didn't get in so I can move on and figure out how I can make myself more competitive next year.

Does anyone know how many people they interview?
