My spouse was considering a well-paying position in Columbia and I was wondering how I would fare considering the horror stories about low salaries in St Louis and SW MO.
How are staff RN salaries in the Columbia area? Salary.com indicates $52,500 median for staff RN. Does that sound about right?

I worked for University of Missouri Hospitals & Clinics about a year ago. I think the salary for RN's is pretty good. Compaired to SW MO....anyhow....if you are interested in looking at UM jobs go to :
http://www.muhealth.org they have their jobs listed at this site and I believe they also have their salary ranges posted at this site as well. Best of Luck.

My husband is from Missouri and wants to move to Columbia after I graduate from nursing school in Arizona. Thank you for the link, looks like the pay is not too shabby there! Maybe that will make up for the weather......

Hi there,
There are several options for places to work. University Hospitals and Clinics and Boone Hospital Center, which is affiliated with Barnes Jewish-Christian. I believe the pay is comparable between the two places. No place in Missouri will pay all that well. And there is a derth of nurses in this area. Doesn't mean jobs are hard to find, it just means that a lot of folks shuffle from the U to Boone to Regional. Anyway, that median salary sounds about right.
Luck to you

merry christmas! i wanted to give you another option for your nursing career in missouri......cms in the prison system and forensic psych nursing at mid mo mental health or fulton state hospital. cms is desperate for nurses right now where i work and they are paying really well along with shift differential and bonus shifts. the prison is located in fulton, mo which is about 30 miles from columbia. fulton state hospital is also located in fulton, mo but it's a whole different type of nursing. you are dealing with the criminally insane and it's a fairly dangerous job. (i worked there for 7 years). mid mo mental health hospital in columbia is run by the same ceo as fulton state and it's much safer than fulton state. it's a state job so the benefits are great as well. let me know if you would like any other information on these areas? oh and when i worked at capital region in jefferson city, i was making about $35 an hour working 2 twelve hour shifts on the weekends only. a great job with full time benefits.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I appreciate it. Good to know there are jobs to be found in Columbia. I am in Az now, the nursing field is absolutely BOOMING here, so I will likely get some experience here and then move on to MO. I plan to stay here as long as hubby can take it!! Thank you!
