Hey Y'all!
I'm getting ready to apply to the Columbia's ETP for 2010. I was just wondering who else was applying and what you were doing to make your application stronger! Also where else are you applying and what do your stats look like (GPA, GRE, experience, etc) ? I'm getting nervous as I start the whole application process and just thought I'd turn to the forums for some support and guidance!
I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with y'all! Hope to hear from you soon! :)

Someone who is applying directly from undergrad, who would likely be graduating this May/June, would be non-degree.
Thanks Lizzy - I second that! Would love to hear how the day went and what questions were answered. In Judy Wolfe's email tonight, she said, "if you are accepted as non-degree, you must submit all the outstanding admissions documents/transcripts stated in your acceptance letter ...."
I didn't realize there was a non-degree option for ETP? Can anyone shed light on that avenue?
What package is everyone getting for the supplies? I think that I might go for package 2. Would live 1, but it's expensive and don't know if it's going to be worth it. Also, was thinking of getting 2 tops w/2 bottoms. Anyone getting more? What about the warmup jacket.
They did not have samples of the uniforms during visiting day. I hope that I buy the right fit.
When it comes to scrubs get bigger rather than smaller. You want them to be loose and comfortable (especially through the hips and shoulders), not fitted! I would imagine 2 of each would be enough. I still can't believe that they have a skirt option... All of the nurses that I have been working with have Littmann Stethoscopes and love them! I don't think I'll get the warm up jacket, I already have jackets and sweaters that will do the job. I'm trying to save $ wherever possible!

Ah, I see. So its the same program for all accepted students - the "non-degree" refers to their current state. I was wondering if there was some secret avenue for part-time study or non-matriculated study.
i think i read on an older thread that the warm up jackets are not necessary since you can wear long sleeves underneath your uniform. also keep in mind that the uniforms are unisex so you may not need to go a size up and they are made looser then regular clothes anyways. if i remember correctly, one of the ambassadors at my table said that they'll let you change the uniforms if the size is wrong.
on a side note, does anyone know for sure if we have to make the check out to Columbia or Steele for our supply package? on the email Judy said to make it out to Columbia but on the order form it says to make it out to Steele. not sure what i should do.
Thanks for all your responses everyone :)
Some questions I have...
about uniforms - are we expected to wear uniforms to clinicals only, or to both lecture classes AND clinicals? If both, I would think ordering 2 sets of scrubs wouldn't be enough to last the week unless people love to do laundry (which I don't)
about supplies - I happen to have a stethoscope (Littmann 3M).. it's a bit old, do you think its necessary to buy a brand new one? I think if I went ahead with a package I would go with #2...
about immunizations/physicals/titers - What do we do if we don't have our immunization records (I know, it's terrible!)
Hi Dizzy et al,
I spoke to a current student this week as well as the Financial Aid office.
1) Scrubs - 2 sets work well for most. My understanding is they are just for clinicals. You can wear street clothes for class etc. We do however need the uber stylish white shoes (I was hoping this wasn't true). haha.
2) Medical Equipment - Student suggested I just get a stethoscope and pen light. The rest of the equipment wasn't necessary. So, I bought it on amazon and saved a few bucks. I think if you can hear heart/lung sounds with your current stethoscope then I'd use it.
3) Financial Aid - New system still being implemented. They hope to have it up next week and start sending letters after that. They said **hope.** Yikes. If they can't get the letters out before the 3/29 deposit deadline they will email us.
4) Immunizations - You can request titers done when you go get your physical that we need before 4/15. This will tell you what vaccinations you need to get. I had it done not too long ago and its pretty quick/easy. Once you know you can go from there and your primary care provider will sign off/fill-out your forms.
Hope this helps!
I just found out about this site. I got into the FNP program, and will definitely be attending. I'm looking at the student housing options right now, and it seems so confusing.... which building is closest to the school or nursing? but i guess i shouldn't count on getting into student housing.
they never say how much tuition actually is, does anyone have an actual estimate of tuition in these 3 years?
I missed visiting day. what's some important points they made?
congrats to all.
