Hi,
I plan on applying for the anesthesia program at Columbia and I wanted to know how the background of those that have been accepted look like to see if I'm even competitive enough apply.
Thanks!
Did you receive the email FinAid sent out? I'll post it here :)
When completing the FAFSA, it is important to remember the following:
So this is getting ahead of things but I was looking at the email sent out regarding orientation and the supplies ("You are required to submit the attached Supply Order Form by March 15 with a check or money order for the proper amount, made payable to Steele Supply Co."). Just as a heads up, the stethoscopes seem to be significantly marked up through Columbia. Online, the same stethoscopes (cardiology III) are ~$40 less with free shipping and free name engraving (the reason I looked online to begin with as an MD friend recommended the engraving).
Ohh - I got you. Sorry, I completely misunderstood. Yeah, that is definitely a question I was afraid to also ask in the event that I was accepted to another program. Luckily I was informed I did not make the cut so it made my FAFSA filing that much easier. Were you able to speak with someone in FinAid to assist?
Hi everyone, I was not accepted to PMHNP but I had a feeling I wouldn't be and not super disappointed. I still have prereqs in progress and my GRE was 1170 and undergrad GPA 3.0 (although MSW 3.9 and prereqs 4.0). I plan to apply UMDNJ next Spring when my prereqs are done.
I live in Washington heights (155th street- 190s) NYC if anyone has any questions. It is safe and affordable esp. living alone. It is not the most desirable area to live if you are thinking you want Manhattan. It is very close to the nursing school (168th street) however which is a plus. But no cute restaurants or bars etc...and not enjoyable for going for walk. You really need to go to to UWS or Morningside heights to go out.
Morningside Heights (98th-116th street) is a great area if you can afford to live there. It is a little cheaper than Manhattan proper but more exp than Wash heights. It is up and coming but very cute now - near Broadway and Columbia University (undergrad schools). However some streets near Columbus Ave are less desirable (public housing/Sec 8). I am totally fine with that as you are a 3 minute walk away from Broadway (which has cute bars, restaurants) and also 10 min walk to 90s uws. but some people are not ok with that. It really is what you can accept.
Hey congrats all you accepted applicants! On the theme of MARGARITAS, some of us current ETPers would love to grab a beer (or marg) with you on the Friday night of visiting day. Keep that in mind and we'll try to get you the info through your handy new facebook group. Woo hoo!Jenny
Hi Jenny,
Would you mind sharing (or pming me) about how you or most people you know managed to fund the program? I recently found out I'll likely get no financial aid for this year- because it is a 5th year BA and I am under 24 they take my parent's income into account. I really want to figure out a way to be able to attend but taking out that much money in loans seems impossible. Any feedback you have would be much appreciated!

That's a really good question! I've been wondering as well. I've been told to put "second degree" wherever possible, and I think we're still considered bachelor degree students during the first year of the program, but I wrote to a financial aid counselor for the final word. I'll let you know what I find out.
