Colorado/multistate licensing question

Published

I am a student in California and I want to move to Colorado when I graduate (in 9 weeks). Do I need to wait until I graduate to apply for licensing? In CA you can apply before you graduate and then they process your application when your transcripts are received. Does it work that way in CO or should I wait until I'm closer to graduation? The site says that if your transcripts aren't received in a "timely manner" then your application will be cancelled.

Also, I have already applied with the BRN in CA to get licensed but I haven't completed my pearson vue application yet. I heard that you can only get initial licensure in one state. If I do apply for a CO license, do I need to withdraw my application in CA or can I just ignore the ATT for CA and use the one CO sends me? Or does it not work that way? Or when I fill out the pearson vue application can I just declare CO instead of CA?

From what I understand, CA is not one of the compact states, unlike CO. For this reason, I would recommend that you would just take the NCLEX in CO. Otherwise, you will have to pay to be a RN in the state of CA as well as CO. You do NOT have to withdraw your application in CA.

Yes you may have up withdraw your CA application as you can only apply for licensing by examination in a single state. The ATT will only be issued for CA since that's the state you applied to for initial licensing. You will not get a refund from CABRN.

Path of least resistance since you already paid for CA is get licensed in CA and endorse to CO.

I haven't applied through pearson vue yet, does that make a difference as to if I still need to withdraw my application or not?

You will forfeit the application fee to CABRN whether you proceed or withdraw your application. Do you have $150 application fee to CA to donate?

You will declare your BoN when you register & pay Pearson Vue
