does collin college provide you a stethescope to buy or should you purchase one from a store?:nurse:

what other supplies do they expect you to buy?

I don't go to that school but I would imagine you would have to buy your own stethoscope...usually that is something that you are expected to buy. Also, you would really want to have one that is your own also for the future! Usually you need to buy a pen light, calculator, scrubs, and scissors. Can't think of anything else...my brain is fried at the moment lol. good luck!:D

They do not provide your stethoscope. You will be required to purchase your uniforms, stethoscope (I recommend strongly you don't skimp on this either - get a good one), skills lab kit, injection kit, health insurance, BLS course, patches for your uniform, books and school supplies, all the costs associated with the licensing exam (comes to about $500 when all is said and done) , lab coat, watch, shoes, your pin, drug testing as often as required, etc etc etc.

This is a very basic breakdown here (and in no way includes everything):

http://www.collin.edu/nursing/costs.html

The school does not "cover" the cost of anything. You pay your tuition and that includes only you being able to attend class. The rest is up to you. The "insurance" included on that list is not health insurance - that is the cost of the school carrying on you. You will be required to prove every semester that you have health insurance of your own. There is insurance available through the nursing student association, not too terribly expensive, but horrible coverage.

Best of luck. I suggest you look the whole Collin Nursing website over really good for all the information you need.

Best of luck

They do, however, have the option of buying a few things as a group and getting a (very) slight discount that way. You get details on that at orientation, which you get invited to in your acceptance letter.

What kind of stethoscope do most of you have?

I have a littman lightweight stethoscope.

I have a Littman II and a Littman Light. I like the first one better but both are good stethoscopes.
