Collin College Fall 2013 Nursing Applicant's

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I just finished taking my PSB and I've already submitted my application to Collin College for the Fall of 2013. This is my 3rd time applying and I'm really hoping I get in this time around. If I did well on the PSB I should have 15 out of 16 points, so I think I should have a pretty good chance of getting into the program. My question is has anyone heard anything about students being turned down for taking A&P I twice to improve their grade? I received a B the first time I took it, so I retook it this last semester and at the end of the semester my professor told my class if this was our 2nd time taking it then we might as well not even waste our time applying to Collin, because they will automatically throw away your application if you didn't get an A the first time you took it. Has anyone heard if this is true or not?

I don't think we will find out until sometime in the summer. I thought once I figured out if I was accepted or not I could finally start planning out exactly what to do as far as child care and what not. I had no idea everything would still be up in the air until summer! Oh well, at least we got in! I wish someone would answer your question about the online book stuff. I interested to know about that.

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

Clinical day typically is revealed 1-2 weeks before the semester starts. The program operates under the assumption that all students understand this is a full time course load and will have made full time arrangements for all other obligations.

Congrats, you guys... I am a 4th semester student and I was looking over your messages thinking... Wow... it all went by so quickly.

Take it day by day... don't worry over the future too much. Work on what you have on your plate right now. Work off a calendar and WRITE EVERYTHING down in it so you NEVER MISS a date nor will it creep up on you. All of you will do great and be proud to be a Collin Nursing Student. BTW... someone asked about INSURANCE? Look into NSNA.org. If you are a CNSA member, you can purchase student INS pretty inexpensively through them.

Have fun and try NOT to stress too much. Your professors are there to help.

Thank you so much for offering words of encouragement. I am so excited about this journey! :)

Has anyone gotten any emails from the staff about class registration or background checks yet? I remember them telling us at the orientation that we would be given an email around May 17th telling us to get our codes so that we could register for the classes. I haven't gotten anything yet... Just wondering if I'm the only one in this situation...

Nope, I haven't received anything either

Has anyone received anything? I noticed that the course numbers are now posted under Schedules on the Collin webpage

I have not received anything yet. I visited the nursing office back in mid-May and they said the information needed to sign up for classes would not be posted until July. If anyone hears anything else, please let me know.

Oh wow. So it's going to be awhile. Good to know! Thanks for the update!

I was beginning to wonder if I had somehow missed it, glad to hear I'm not the only one still waiting. They went over so much information at orientation and I was really sick at the time, so I was kind of worried that I had forgotten something.

I still haven't gotten an email. I have no schedule, books, uniform, bag, nursing insurance, and no idea when I will. I know how to order the uniform, but everything else I don't know. Am I the only one without information?

I haven't received an email about the class schedule and FBI background check either. It should be coming any day. As for books, I'm waiting until we get closer to school starting before I get my books. I already ordered my uniform, according to the website the tops run on the larger side, but I found that to be incorrect. I have to return all my tops since they are too small. The bag I believe we will get when school starts, but I'm not completely sure about that. I'm having difficulty finding insurance, the cheapest I've found so far is nearly $100 a month. I heard you can get cheap insurance if you join the student nursing association, so I just joined last week, I hope its true. Make sure you don't forget to get your dental exam... I had mine a couple weeks ago and found out I have a couple cavities, and they have to be fixed before August 15th :\

I would recommend you go ahead and order your uniforms, the deadline is July 22. If you need more info I would stop in and talk to the nursing department. I was nervous that I had missed something so I stopped in a couple weeks ago, and found them very helpful.
