Ok, so I am going to be a senoir in high school and soon to be applying to colleges. I am looking into majoring in nursing, BSN. and maybe double major with a minor in psychology. Anyway mainly going for BSN, I know community college nursing programs have wait lists right?

But what about UC and CSU schools? I probally going to applyto csu chico, csu long beach, csu los angeles, uc san francisco, csu sacramento, uc fullerton, and csu channel islands(the newest school, they are actually starting a nursing program the year i graduate, anyone heard of/visted it?)

I live in pleasanton, bay area and want to go down south, and get away from home, which i couldn't do in a community college.

What do you think my chanes of getting in are? I only have a 3.0 cummulative gpa and SAT of 1640, which isn't excellant. thanks!

You might want to repeat/type that SAT score again....Doesn't SAT only go up to 1600?

If you want to get into nursing programs/schools, make a list of all of the ones in the area where you plan to live. Make out a list of requirements for entrance. Apply to all that you can--that will definitely increase your chances. Keep in mind that you will first be pre-nursing for the first couple of years for bachelors RN (where you will be completing your prerequisites like chemistry, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, nutrition, research, etc, then you will have to apply to the nursing program (where you will have clinicals (at a hospital/clinic/nursing home setting) and courses like pathophysiology, pharmacology, nursing seminars, etc.

Keep this in mind when you are sketching out your plans and keep your options open. Going back to nursing school and becoming an RN was the best decision I ever made. I love the aspect of helping others and making a difference. Good luck with your search of schools and keep us posted. We are here to help you as you go along in your journey.

No, the new SAT goes up to 2400, which is why 1640 is not very good. The new one came out bout 2-3 years ago, requires an essay, and more sections. I am aleady signed up for two more testing periods to improve that score.

Thanks for your advice, I dont really know where i want to live, just away from home :) So I think I am just going to be applying to all over CA, maybe oregon, washington to. Has anyone gone to or applied to schools there?

I've applied to programs, and went to a school in oregon. I can't speak for other schools, but most programs in Oregon take students into the nursing programs as transfer students- meaning that even for the majority of BSN programs, you apply first to the school and then have to apply to the nursing program after completing prerequisites. The only non-private BSN program in Oregon is OHSU, and they only accept transfer students who have completed the 2 years of prereqs. It may run very expensive to attend one of the private programs for 2-4 years with the risk of not getting into the nursing program.
