A few more days and I find out if I get into the program - I hope I do. =/

Who else goes to CSI?

i go to csi. The results will be out tomorrow. :)

Woot! Got accepted. My med/surg class is section 2745! I'm so excited and proud of myself. =D

hi metricalpound , i know that the congrats is too late, but i hope everything is going on great with your classes.

i will be applying for the csi 2011 fall program. can you please give me some information on what they look for. in terms of GPA and nln scores. and any other helpful tips on studying for the nln will greatly help me.

thanks a lot.....

They look for a combination of things. I was told that the process of being accepted is done by a committee of people who look over your grades and your NLN scores to make the decision.

When it comes to grades, I think for most people, it was the bio 150 grade which got them accepted or declined from the program.

For the NLN - study from the official NLN book. That book worked wonders on my math grade. =/

Anyways good luck! And when you get accepted (start to think positive =D ), study because the program is tough. =/

Is this an ADN program? Just curious to know if those of you in the program have good prospects in terms of jobs after graduation, as I hear many hospitals are preferring nurses with BSNs.

This is an ADN program but CSI has a BSN program as well.

I hear it's tough with an ADN too but I think eventually it'll have to pick up with the healthcare overhaul, an aging population and an already under served populace.

Remember that this economy is affecting every sector of job opportunity and from my experience and what I hear of, Nursing has actually faired pretty well because I still hear of people getting jobs. I have a BA in English and two credits shy of MS in Education and I can't find a teaching anywhere. There are people that are graduating from Ivy League schools, with perfect GPAs and would seem to be perfect teachers that can't find jobs teaching because there are none.

I think a lot of people got spoiled by the idea that nurses were in high demand and just a couple of years ago, every nurse that graduated got a job with no problem. Just a couple of weeks ago, in my clinical there was a nurse that graduated from the program that I am in, that just got a job at that hospital - so the jobs are out there for ADNs, they just have to fight for them. And, I'm a fighter. =D

Nice response, thank you. There's just so much talk about hospitals going BSN preference and I can't help to wonder what ADN new grads do with that happening. Good to know that there are still some opportunities out there for ADNs even though it will come with a struggle. I myself am pursuing admission to accelerated BSN programs but in the event I am unable to attend one I was looking into ADN. I have been wary of attending an ADN program in the long run for fear that I could be locked out of all opportunities to find work as a new grad, particularly in the NY area (even though I would eventually bridge to BSN or even an MSN program that would accept me with an ADN and non-nursing BA). But at the same time, I am not sure if the BSN preference in hospitals has extended yet to places such as Staten Island.

Do you know if application to CSI's ADN program requires enrollment in CSI for at least 1 semester prior to application for the nursing program? I have heard this about other CUNY schools, but not sure if it applies to all the schools in the system.
