College of New Rochelle Second Degree Nursing Class of 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! Just wanted to start this thread to see if anyone else has applied to CNR's ABSN program for the Spring or Summer 2018 start!

I applied to Northeastern but declined it because it was too expensive. I'm looking at Wagner college for the summer as well but other than that idk. Really considering CNR but unsure if the program is reputable/idk anyone who's gone there or graduated. Have you heard good reviews from students?!

I honestly haven't heard anything about CNR but I know of someone who will attend the accelerated program. Don't know anything more.

@kikikegz Congrats on officially getting accepted!! I was thinking the same thing - I sure hope they keep their accreditation.. that would be pretty bad, but I think it's because they're revising their curriculum? I'm skeptical about putting down my deposit about that. I've spoken with current students and alum and they say the program is pretty disorganized, but has overall been a good experience and has prepared them well. So I have hope. I'm still waiting to hear back from other schools, but I am strongly considering CNR.

Also, thank you @JP0927 !! Best of luck to you! Did you apply to the Harlem cohort? Though I know that both cohorts take summer courses at the New Rochelle campus..

I called to ask about the registration pending for the program and what it meant and no one knew the answer ;(. Someone told me that she has to check with the dean. She should be getting back to me soon

Thank you! No, I applied to the New Rochelle campus, Harlem would've been cool if it was an option, that's closer to my home.

@Charlie123 Hmmm I remember they said they had to reconstruct their curriculum and prove to the board that they are financially able to have their programs. It's making me uneasy though. Did you apply to the program already?

@kikikegz I actually just switched to the New Rochelle campus since it's closer to my home. So @JP0927 maybe I'll be seeing you around campus in the summer!

@alyssaav I asked what the deal was with the harlem campus and she said "Our Nursing Program was recently re-accredited by the CCNE and this accreditation is through 2023. Separate from being accredited, New York State is in the process of considering our Harlem campus an official site. Until it is deemed an official site, the Harlem Cohort must take some of its classes at the New Rochelle campus. This is why Harlem will have its summers at New Rochelle. We hope to have it deemed an official site ASAP."

I also switched to the New Rochelle Campus !!! We're going to be classmates ahhh!! I went to check it out on Wednesday and spoke to a couple of the students. They did say it was unorganized but as long as your on top of things like clinical placements and what not then it's a good program with a high nclex pass rate. The clinical placements sound pretty good as well. I just submitted my deposit this week, so excited to start!

That's so great! Y'all are motivating me to finish submitting my application. When is the deadline? I'll try to finish it by the end of this weekend.

Also, would you guys mind giving some advice/suggestions for the personal statement? I'd really like some insight on how you guys wrote it since y'all were accepted. Thanks!

@kikikegz Gotcha. I'm glad they were re-accredited by the CCNE haha and that makes sense about waiting for it to be an official campus, though it is literally one small building. But in any case, nice!!! I'm so excited!! :D Also excited to meet you! I'll be submitting my deposit this weekend. I feel like being that most ABSN programs are relatively new, there's going to be some disorganization, but I think we can make it through and succeed :)

@JP0927 I remember the enrollment coordinator telling me that they don't have an exact deadline since admissions are pretty much rolling so just try to finish it asap! As for the personal statement, the lady I met with (Kelly) had told me to definitely talk about any healthcare experiences you have and how that has affect you in terms of pursuing a nursing degree. I also talked about why I wanted to be a nurse, giving a specific situation that led me to pursue nursing. I also talked about my personal, educational, and career goals and how CNR could help me achieve them. If you have specific questions, let me know! Hope that helps!

Thank you!! Very helpful information.

@alyssum Yes I did! I'll be starting in January. Aside from the program being approved and the disorganization I really hope it goes well.

@Charlie123 That's great! Congrats!! I just sent in my deposit today. Which campus will you be at?

Also, I created a FB group (for both cohorts) in case anyone is interested in joining. Just search CNR second degree nursing spring 2018 :)
