college network & new tax credit.

Published

Hi, Everyone

I'm filling my taxes and would like to take advantage of the new education tax credits. However, I pay X amt of dollars each month to College network. Do any of you Know if I can get the tax credit for this since it applies to taking Excelsior test vs traditional tuition & is this the legal equivalent to tuition?

Thanks:cool:

I claimed it on my taxes for the past 2 years as textbooks.

Hi dstep102570,

What did you use for TCN's federal id#? I defiantely want to be able to write off something!

I was reading up on the American education credit and this program, leading to a BS qualifies as a

degree program, I would think we should be able to use it.....We will have a bachelor's after all is said

and done.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetery, gerentology.

I turned it in as the cost of books..which that is what they are.

so, What did you use for TCN's federal id#?

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

TCN does not have a federal ID number because it is not an accredited institution of higher learning. TCN is a publishing company that sells overpriced books and study materials. People fail to realize that TCN is not a degree-granting entity. ISU (Indiana State University) will be the school that awards you the BS degree in the end.

Again, TCN is not a degree program. ISU will be issuing your degree. Since TCN sells expensive study materials and textbooks, you would be able to deduct the cost of their materials as textbooks when you get your taxes done.
