I found khan academy a very great help.... he explains things very, very well (especially the breaking things down so you can understand how they relate to other mathy things) and you can replay the lessons as often as needed. If I remember correctly, khan academy has optional donation.
Also, the Life of Fred series. These are text books more suited for learning math on your own than for patching gaps in your understanding but they are cheap, entertaining, and effective - esp for people who need a different kind of approach to math than is usually given in math classes.

I second khan academy. Also he has exercises you can do on his page and if you get stuck you ask for a hint.

I hate it however when I choose my math professors I go to this website. www.ratemyprofessors.com I get a better insight on who is going to teach me and how the class is structured. Then I pray I pass. I have taking my prep math 3 times because I couldn't adapt to the teachers teaching style. I finally passed yeah me. Now it's on to Intermediate and my new math teacher uses multiple choice answers and let's you use your notes. So I plan on passing this class. I also hate to take a math class where the teacher marks your steps wrong even though you get the answer right. Good luck and God Bless us.
