Any applicants out there for COM Fall 2012?

San jac sends out acceptance letters on July 1, FYI. I was talking to one of the ladies in the nursing department at COM and she said she hasn't had anyone pull out applications yet this semester... And I know of 2 people on this forum who are going to turn down COM for other schools so... Alternates should have an awesome chance of getting in. They usually accept 10-25 people off the alternate list she said as well.

92 applicants as of 4:45. Immunizations/Titer results will be due by July 27th. Acceptance/wait list/denial letters will be sent out in the next week or two but we should definitely hear something by the end of the month. Good luck everyone!

Good luck everyone! Does anyone know how to go about doing all the immunizations?

If you have health insurance go to your doctor, if not go to Galveston county health district off 45 by 517. Bring that sheet that shows all the vaccines we need and your vaccination record and the lady will help you out. They cost 10 per vaccine but she wont send you away if you can't pay. For the titer, go to the nursing department and they will give you a form for a discounted test with coastal health and wellness by the mall of the mainland.

Cool thanks i was just going to get the titers i think! i know i have had the chicken pox . & do you know where to get the flu vaccine in the middle of summer??

COM won't pay for the chicken pox titer so it's pretty expensive, I've heard 120. They pay for most of the hep b... All you pay is 25 dollars. If you have any doubt you've had chicken pox, GO GET YOUR VACCINE TOMORROW!!! Do not risk it. The chicken pox vaccine is a two shot series 6 weeks apart. The health district off 45 and 517 gave me my flu vaccine, as well. I just finished my vaccinations except for the hep b, which I need a booster for.

Hep b is only suppose to last 10-15 years without a booster, so I'd be very careful with that one too!

has anyone had to contact the TBON for a petition letter? I was just wondering how long it takes to get the letter. I was accepted into fall alvin program and they did a background check and a dismissed charge came up. I didnt even think about it because I was 17 and they said I need the letter before I can start... their due date for it was today and I found out monday so I cannot attend Alvin anymore :( COMs due date is the 27th... what are the chances that I will get that letter?? I overnighted it this morning.

I heard the TBON is terribly slow. I am so sorry you are going through this.

I have heard the same thing but a girl I know had to do it also and she got her letter in 6 weeks... the good news is that it is a dismissed case and very little paper work so they hopefully will just look at it as im acknowledging to them that it happened... i wanted to go to Alvin so bad im so very disappointed. I never thought I had a record!! I thought since I was young and it was dismissed it was over forever... but no! Its nothing major but still this puts me back to applying all over again. I do have a meeting with someone at com to review my case to see if I can go ahead and get started, but I dont think I will be able to with out that letter in hand. Just word to the wise everyone, check to make SURE there is nothing that will come up that you put you behind like me!

Good luck! I did a background check on myself using been verified. I've never had anything other than a speeding ticket, though. I really hope everything works out for you. I am sorry Alvin didn't work out for you but maybe you are just meant to be at COM!

Thanks! I hope it works out too. Im now actually looking into BSN programs if I dont get in for the fall. The hospital I work for only hire BSN now anyways... maybe this is a calling :) either way I may be a bit delayed now but def not giving up!
