College of the Mainland ADN FALL 2019 program

Published

Hi, I’m applying for the fall at com and wanted to start a post for the upcoming applicants who are also applying. I been following all the other posts from semesters before which makes me pretty nervous about my chances of getting in. Good luck to everyone!

Hi can anyone tell me what are the number of days you’re in school for lecture?

We usually have 2 lecture days a week, then clinical days about once a week sometimes twice.

WOW! thanks. I know you all are busy. How was adjusting to online working? We’re starting June 8th with Summer classes. Also where did you all have to purchase uniforms? I was told they only sell the patches at the bookstore

Ah your in the LVN to ADN program, it's the only one that starts in the Summer I'm not sure how many lecture days y'all have. I have heard the transition program is a bit more intense then the 2 year ADN program, I wish you the best of luck. I bought my uniforms on amazon they only care about the brand and then put the patches on them. You should have an orientation, I wouldn't do anything before then of course with the current state of things it might take place on microsoft teams. There they will talk about what it's like and the books needed, the bookstore is currently curbside only just call/email them, I don't know if that is going to change before the program starts.

Adjusting to online learning was harsh, It requires a lot more focus to get through. I've taken online classes before and still struggled with it, of course it didn't help that life issues also came to head with Covid that couldn't be ignored. I really hope we get to go back to campus in the fall.

Yes LOL. I’m doing the transition program. I know for sure we’re going to be online for Summer but hopefully things are back to normal for fall. They haven’t gave word of us working remotely for fall. So I’m hopeful. I think I’ll do amazon as well for the uniforms. But of course wait for their guidance. How long are the lecture days? Sorry for all of the questions. Just trying to have a sense of what to expect. Is the math difficult? I was told u can only use dimensional analysis

How long the lecture days are depends on the classes you should be able to pull the information up in webadvisor--Student planning(registration) while you can't sign up for the classes you should be able to search for each class and look up the times, since Summer is online there are no times, it will be different than in the fall. The transition program is intense so expect to spend a good deal of time studying the material.

Math is not difficult once you understand Dimensional analysis its actually easy it does take a bit to understand, I had to have another classmate explain it to me but once that was done it wasn't an issue, if you want something to do now learn your conversions you will use them.

I do wonder if y'all get to have actual clinicals this Summer or if they are all going to be simulated online, that is something I'm sure they'll explain at orientation if not ask, if they are all online you might not even need uniforms right away. Feel free to ask question I probably won't have all the answers, but I'm happy to answer what I do know.

Thanks so much!! I really appreciate it. I think I’m going to hold off on purchasing Uniforms since Summer will be online. What did you do for books? Rent or buy? So the bookstore will be available outside to pick up books?

So I just received an email stating we’ll have to do one of three things. What is a blue card? Outcome/Approval letter?

I completely recommend getting the ebooks, which means you have to by them but it is so much easier to study with ebooks, you have have the with you on your phone wherever you go, you can search them when looking for something without having to skim through a whole lot of pages. I was not a fan of ebooks for textbooks before nursing, now I will search them out because they are that helpful. The book store usually has some type of bundle with everything you need for each level, I warn you now it is not cheap. I spent more on books the first semester then the tuition for the school. That said the bundle is cheaper if then buying everything separate.

The blue card comes from the Texas Board of nursing it's basically a background check. You get fingerprinted and then the BON mails you a blue card if you pass or instruction on what to do otherwise. They should have sent a link to sign up for that. I would do that ASAP the BON is slow.

Oh OK. So if I’ve previously been fingerprinted is it still required to get done? I just moved here last year from Florida and transferred my license to here but I went thru all of that not long ago.

I have no Idea, I think you still need to blue card showing your license is unencumbered as to now. That said just email the nursing department they will be able to answer that question better than I can.

OK. Thanks. I appreciate you answering all of my questions. How are you doing in your classes? Which class are you taking now?
