College of the Desert application for Fall 2014 Spring 2015

Published

Has anyone applied to College of the Desert for the Fall 2015 / Spring 2015 application period for the ADN program? I'm curious as College of the Desert told me they had more than 400 applicants, and they didn't know how smoothly the selection process is going to go; now that there is only one application period per year, the TEAS should be taken before applying, and the implementation of the multicriteria screening and ranking process. I have applied 6 times - hopefully I get in this time :-)

I guess it's kind of a good news/bad news scenario. I'm happy with acceptance into either semester, I would prefer Fall though.

Me too. Just get it over with!!

I actually called COD yesterday and spoke to a counselor on the phone. I asked if science credits from east la college are transferable and how can an applicant improve to be accepted in the nursing program and she said science grades have to be top notch plus the other criteria (volunteer, working as a cna for three yrs, low income, etc) will help you.

Have you guys tried La Harbor or lbcc?

I am nearly maxed out on my gpa points, I think for me (if I don't get in), I'm going to try to get into the CNA program at COD. Then I could apply 10 more points for the next app period. I truly hope it doesn't come to that! Did you apply this app period to COD? From your post I didn't so, what is your top choice? I'm pretty much stuck out here with COD, I'm a "non-traditional" student with kiddos that I don't want to move around :-/

Yes, I have applied to Cerritos, RCC, ELAC, Pasadena, Mt. Sac and COD. I know I will be able to get in ELAC but their NCLEX scores are low. Cerritos and Pasadena are lottery and Mt Sac I can get in but not until Spring. RCC my points aren't that high but they also have a lottery. So we shall see!!!!

I forgot to ask... which school is your top choice? Did you take your TEAS and add those points to your app?

I'm just starting to take pre reqs so I'm in the beginning stage, but calling schools and thinking ahead. COD is one of my choices. I believe in order to get the 10pts you have be a CNA , MA,etc for atleast three years. Its on the COD website how they break the points down.

Yes I took my teas and at this point anywhere.

Harbor is too far and lbcc science pre req expire in 5 yrs.

Where are you located?

Murrieta

Wow, That is a drive.

Hi Tasha, I could be wrong but, the criteria for using a CNA qualification is that you must be licensed and have worked a minimum of 100 hours in the past 3 years. That was my understanding after reviewing their sample multi-criteria link. It is something I will explore though, if I don't get in. Fingers still crossed that I get good news :-)
