College of the Desert application for Fall 2014 Spring 2015

Published

Has anyone applied to College of the Desert for the Fall 2015 / Spring 2015 application period for the ADN program? I'm curious as College of the Desert told me they had more than 400 applicants, and they didn't know how smoothly the selection process is going to go; now that there is only one application period per year, the TEAS should be taken before applying, and the implementation of the multicriteria screening and ranking process. I have applied 6 times - hopefully I get in this time :-)

Whoops... I meant to say, has anyone applied for the Fall 2014 / Spring 2015 application period? This is the first time COD will only be accepting applications once/year, and a first for the multicriteria selection process. Hopefully it runs smoothly! Fingers crossed :-)

This is my 3rd time applying. I have not taken any courses atCOD so every time I wasn't put in the lottery and now the criteria seems different than other schools. I am midrange at other schools and low here.

This is crazy, I can't believe no one has posted to your blog with any info.

Yay, another COD applicant! I was pretty surprised myself at the lack of COD activity. I took all of my pre-reqs at COD and this makes my 6th time applying, so I feel your anxiety. I actually spoke with the admissions counselor at the nursing dept, who told me that there were less applicants than they initially thought - somewhere around 200. I don't know how accurate that is though. I also asked about the range of scores they received for the multi-criteria process, she said most applicants had between 45 and 65 points. I'm right in the middle so I'm not feeling very confidant right now (hopeful though). Did you submit TEAS results with your packet? I was confused about this as previously they had provisionally accepted applicants take it after they were accepted. I ended up taking it last minute to get some more points. Who knows!!! Oh - they posted today that we should hear back late May - so we don't have to wait until June :-)

Did you apply to any other schools?

Yes, I have applied to Cerritos, RCC, ELAC, Pasadena, Mt. Sac and COD. I know I will be able to get in ELAC but their NCLEX scores are low. Cerritos and Pasadena are lottery and Mt Sac I can get in but not until Spring. RCC my points aren't that high but they also have a lottery. So we shall see!!!!

This is the only school I know where applicants scores are so low. I don't like the way they have spread the points. Do you live near the campus? How is it? I have never toured the campus. It was just 2 dang on hot. You have a lot of info, every time I call I get the we don't know. Do you have some inside scoop?lol. I only have 55 points and I was like I am never getting in. My name is Kellye what is yours?

Oh, do you know how many spots there are?

ok, I found this on COD"S website.

Be advised that beginning during the Spring 2014 application period, applications for the RN program will be once a year for acceptance into the program the following two semesters; there will no longer be an August application period after 2013. For example, those applying during the Spring 2014 application period will be assigned to either Fall 2014 or Spring 2015 once they have been accepted into the program.

So this means if we don't make it to the Fall class we can make it for Spring.

Wow, you applied to a lot of schools! I'm sure you'll get into one of them :-) The only reason I have any of the knowledge I have is, there was an issue with my initial app and they wanted me to fill out their "updated" app. When they called me I asked a lot of questions, didn't get many straight answers though. I think their point system is off too- I asked about it and was told that since they have never done this before they weren't sure what to expect, which is why they gave me the range of most applicants. They said not to look at it as grading system. Who knows?? With a 55 you do have a good chance though - hopefully. As far as the campus goes, they are updating a lot of it and the nursing building was one of the first things they did. It is a small campus, right in the middle of Palm Desert. I do live out here, yes, summers are brutal, but, winters are great. I have heard a lot of positive feedback from graduates. I would suggest that you just "nicely" bug them at admissions to see if you can get any further info. Let me know if you have an update, and I'll post here if I find out anything else. Good Luck!! Lets hope we hear something SOON!

Yes!!!! They are accepting 60 students this application period. 30 for Fall, 30 for Spring.
