College of the Canyons Fall 2017

Published

Anyone here applying for fall 2017 at COC? I am waiting on my invitation to take the TEAS test and have been studying for it. Anyone care to share their stats?

I have a BA,

3.7 overall gpa

3.8 Bio gpa

I feel like my grades are competitive, but I'm not sure if they're good enough to help me get in. I have a W on my transcript from 12 years ago when I dropped out of microbiology at age 17, and she said that stays on your record which is annoying since I retook it last year and got an A.

Anyway, hoping to find others who are applying for this fall!

Oh wow, okay thanks I appreciate the heads up! Congrats on getting in.

Thanks. Good luck!!

Hi! I am a soon to be 2nd semester nursing student at COC. Just finished up 1st semester on Tuesday. Congratulations to everyone on their acceptances! COC is such a great program. You will not be disappointed. Please feel free to ask me anything. I know I had a ton of questions and concerns before I started. I am also a mom of 3 (almost 9, 7, and 5) and I was an alternate. Best of luck to you all!

Hi 3alan...I was wondering if you recommend taking the success class? In the welcome letter it says it's optional, but they highly recommend it.

I havent gotten a call at all :/ hopefully i get in at pierce tho

Congrats to everyone that was accepted and hang on for those on the alternate list!! I recently graduated the program and would love to help anyone with any questions/concerns. I know I scoured this website for any info/tips prior to starting hahaha As far as the success class, I would recommend it to supplement the pharmacology section of the semester. Professor Carrillo is an amazing instructor and you're going to want that extra time with her. In later semesters, I might suggest otherwise but for first, I would definitely encourage you to do so.

Hi mom of two! I am sorry I didn't see a notification for a post until today. I did not take the success class and I did well in both classes 112 and 114. I asked a second semester student before I started and she told me if there was something else I could be doing for that hour, skip success. Since I have 3 small kids at home (almost 9, 7, and 5) I took her advice and didn't enroll. However, the professors are nice and very accomodating. Sometimes they used the success hour to go over our exams and we just sat in that day. You know yourself best if you feel you will benefit from some extra time, enroll. If you have something else you could be doing, skip it.

It is almost time to start! Are you all excited, nervous??

Hi L_D_R. Congrats on completing the nursing program!!! It must feel great! Thanks for the advice on the success class. I have enrolled, but I'm still unsure about it. I guess I can wait and see what it's going to be like the first couple of days and go from there.

So, are you by any chance wanting to sell your textbooks? I haven't bought mine yet and would love to take them off your hands if you're not going to need them anymore. No pressure though. Let me know... and thanks for offering to help us first semester students!!!

Thanks Mom-of-t.w.o! Def a great experience. I personally only did the success classes each semester except fourth so I'd have enough units for financial aid. This program really should be considered full time -.- and like the previous poster mentioned, if you have other obligations then maybe not. I'm just glad I did the first semester one. I would def do the second semester psych one with professor houghton. She's amazing. And I would love to sell you mt books but unfortunately my Taylor and Iggy book are ebooks. The only physical book I have is my David drug guide. You're more than welcome to that one. I bought it sometime last year so I'm not sure if it's still the current one or they already updated it. It's never used haha idk why I bought it honestly. I prefer the app. All my other books I rented or just never bought. I would probably only recommend getting the iggy book since you'll use that all four semesters. Taylor I only "used" in first, only with that other pharm book I can't quite remember the name. Ash something. My psych books I bought and quickly returned haha

Actually, I think I help you with the books. Message me and I can give you more info

Hi 3alanizmonkeys!!! I feel the way you do and can always be doing something else for that extra hour. Whether it be studying alone, cooking dinner, helping my kids with homework, etc. However, I did enroll and I guess I will see how it goes the first couple of classes and go from there.

I can't believe it's almost time to start! I am both nervous and excited. :)

Thank you for responding!!!

Has anyone here spoke to the financial aid office and was able to have them consider nursing students as full time? I remember at the orientation (May 5th) one of the previous students said that...

anyone know

Hi cjprenurse,

I was wondering the same thing. The units for the semester including the success class equals to 11.75. It's so close to full time!!! I've been looking for one of those .50 unit workshops, but they are not offering them this semester.

Did you get a call from the nursing department yet? Crossing my fingers!!! :)

Hello! I am lucky enough to start the program this spring! I am wondering if someone could give me a sample of their class schedule? I am trying to weigh through my current employment option to see if I can hang onto my job part time while I go back to school. My current job will have transition opportunity as a flight nurse when I complete the program so it is in good interest to keep my place there. Thank you! I hope your program is going well!
