codes

When CPR is taught we kneel on the floor and compress from the side but with a pt in bed do we stand at side or get up on the bed? Dumb I know. But I am serious! Never did a code nor have seen one in action

I usually teach that if you have a step available then use it to get you in a good position for the compressions, if not then kneel on the bed (taking care not to kneel in any nasties.

Sharrie - It's funny you posted this, but I had to respond. The one time I had to kneel on the bed, I got into a big pile of "nasty". It was also the only time I had to do compressions kneeling in the bed going down the hall to ICU, and wearing a dress, so naturally my dress got caught up in something and everyone down the hall saw my rear. So embarrassing! At least there was a good outcome for the patient.

:lol2: It's those events that stick in your mind. I've knelt in some right nasty stuff during a resus but I think the most unfortunate was my fellow resuscitation trainer running to a call and slipping on the poop that was on the floor, she landed on her backside in the poop.

Yucky :uhoh3:
