Cobedding.

Ok, I know this has been brought up multiple times, but they are old posts. So: We have a set of triplets, (one didn't make it), but the other two girls are now in open cribs, no IV, on oxygen, Nippling and tube feeding. The nurse who had them today asked the Neo if we could co bed them, and she said that the AAP does not recomment cobedding anymore. Has anyone else heard of this?

We had a 12-pounder the other day, and it was nothing but jokes about how he was going straight to high school after discharge.

I admitted a 13+ lb baby once, and I kept saying that I was going to go get him a meatball hero for when we started feeds....Now that this thread has been completely hijacked, back to cobedding! We have no cobedders right now. We only have one set of multiples right now, which is kind of rare.

I had my twins in early 2004.

There were 3 sets of multiples in the NICU aside from mine. As soon as multiples were stable, they were co-bedded. The reasons I was given was that they do better, and it was more natural for them to be together since they would be if they were still in the womb developing.

However, when I took them home, I was told to NOT co-bed them, but to put each one in an individual crib, because they are on monitors in the hospital....and not at home.

I wrapped my twins in the "hospital bundle" until the first morning I woke up and noticed the blanket (a thin one) was very loose...then I went to the bag-style sleepers and took the blanket out.

None of the other multiples that were in with mine had infection issues....so I cannot speak as to what their policy was.

If our census doesn't go down soon, we're going to HAVE to co-bed, policy or not.

We still cobed as soon as twin/triplet is stable. Haven't heard why some units don't do it anymore. Parents love it.:nurse:
