Co-worker had stroke

Hi, just wanted to write and ask if anyone has ever had a co-worker stroke out...Got called in to work an 8 hour shift last night as one of our nurses had a stroke and was flown to the city. Thank goodness she was home with her husband (he works in the ME's office). She appears to be doing ok, per the husband at 0230 Sunday, but they are unsure as to why this happened. She did not have hypertension, diabetes, or high cholesterol. She is only 46, and eats fairly healthy, and there is not a family history, as far as we know. She and her husband eat mostly organic food, and therefore make most of their stuff. It just doesn't seem very fair. She is a brillant nurse, and a lot of fun to be around. Life just isn't fair sometimes. :(

Yep, a couple of months ago one of our CNAs, a relatively healthy 50-year-old, had her SECOND stroke while she was delivering warm blankets to a patient's room. (Her first was at age 39.) One of the night-shift nurses found her in the storeroom, completely unresponsive, still clutching the blankets which had long since cooled. They took her down to ER and she got TPA, which more than likely saved her.

This is a woman who used to be very heavy, but after her first CVA she lost over 100 lbs. and exercised regularly right up until the second one happened; the only problem was, she still smoked like a chimney and her BP wasn't well controlled. She's back at work now, but only part-time, and she walks with a cane & limps rather badly. She also continues to smoke, and I know we'll probably bury her one of these days.......it's too bad, because she's a wonderful caring woman and has been a good friend to many of us for a long time. :o

that is horrible news. Let us know how she is doing?

Well, her husband called yesterday. She has been moved to a neurology floor, and does have control over the whole right side now. However, he didn't answer us when asked how her mental status and speech are. I am going to try to get up to see her this week.

I hope she has a reasonable chance of recovery. I am sorry this happened.

So sad. A 46 year old friend of mine had a stroke 2 mos ago but is back to nursing now. She now has some speech difficulties.Tell your friend a lot of people are wishing her well.

Sunday my friend got use of her leg back and was moved to a neuro floor. Monday she came home. Tried to call her, but all we got was a busy signal. Figured they took the phone off the hook so she could rest. Don't know how her speech or mental status is, but thank you to everyone who has replied and prayed for her.
