CNAs - do you feel like an endangered species?

My employer has cut back drastically on CNA usage in our inpatient units. I've seen many posts here over the last few months about CNAs being eliminated or cut in hospital units, and then of course there's the chronic problem of LTCs using as few as they can possibly get away with.

Nurses can do all our tasks, and obviously employers have figured out that we're expendable in many cases. Does this trend worry you? Does it increase your desire or make you feel more pressure to "move up?"

I'm glad I start LPN school today. I just hope I can get my hours at work this year because my family can't afford a pay cut.

In jersey what they are cutting out are LPN's and hiring CNA's gradually !! It is what it is.

At my facility, nurses rarely do CNA work unless they pick up a CNA shift. However, most shifts there are not enough CNAs for things to run smoothly and efficiently and I can rarely get my tasks completely done. I am in a small town so it may be different for someone in a larger town or city.
