CNA visiting patient

Published

I had a question for everyone, I just finished my CNA course and for the last few weeks of it we did clinicals. I met a patient, an old woman, that I got closer to. I would visit her room and hang out when I got bored and chat with her or watch her tv shows with her (socializing with patients was a really encouraged and our wing was slow so it's not like I was blowing off other jobs or anything). On our last day I went in to say goodbye to her and she was really bummed that I was leaving and asked if I would ever visit her. I told her I would see what I could do, and I'd like to stop by and say hi every once in a while but I don't know if it would be inappropriate. What do you guys think?

You had a professional relationship with that patient and it has now come to its natural end

I want so bad to disagree with this... but then I have to agree. It's funny how my

mind fights with itself sometimes.

I mean, c'mon... it's a little old lady whom, I assume, is a nursing home resident.

She's probably nearing the end part of her life, she's likely alone a lot, sadly

doesn't have much of a "life" anymore. What in the world harm can it do,

for her former CNA, nurse, nursing student, etc.., to come and visit

her on a semi regular basis.?

Welllll... first of all, what happens when you get too busy to visit

anymore? What can possibly happen to that resident psychologically,

not to mention possibly losing trust in her health care workers

because she had a known health care worker let her down, by

failing to come and visit her anymore....

I'm sure there are probably even more possible issues that

can spring up, but I'm having trouble specifying at this time.

Overall, it's never a good idea to continue any type of

relationship with a former patient or resident.
