CNA Training - I'm a little nervous

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Registration was today for this CNA training program. Class starts on 10/26. I was advised to come early this morning, because registration would start at 7:30am. I was told people would be there as early as 5:30am. How about some folks were there at 3:00am! They had 30 seats available between two classes. I was number 26! Thank the Lord I got in. I didn't realize so many people wanted to take this training course.

I do know it is one of the requirements for entry into some nursing programs, which is why I originally needed to take it. However, I think in this case it's good to start from scratch and get a feel for things in the health care industry from the ground up. Now, the hard part begins. I hope I can do this.:D

Specializes in Nursing Assistant.

Glad you were able to get in to the program! I just finished a CNA program and it was not very hard. I studied a lot and practiced my skills a lot. Besides that it is important to pay attention in class and read your text book. You'll do fine. And this was a career change for me to get my foot in the door of the healthcare field. There were many in my class doing that same thing as well. You'll enjoy it! So good luck to you!;)

Thank you! That is my story too....career change. :)

Specializes in LTC, Rehab, CCU, Alzheimers, Med-Surg.

There is a waiting list for CNA classes now? Things are really getting bad!

Yea pretty much. There were people that just didn't get into this session. So, they will get a call about the next session.

I'm excited about it tho. Think it will be good to take before entering NS.

Specializes in CNA/ ALF & Hospital.

Getreal 2011: Where is this place @ that you signed up for training?

AzDeb: Where did you take your state exam at and how did you do?

Oh yes there is!

The demand has gotten so high that the one community college is now offering night courses. At my orientation the woman said that since the recession hit everyone and their mother wants to become a CNA or HHA.

This to is a career change for me and the first time in a true healthcare setting and I hope I like it. I'm nervous as well because I haven't been to school since 2001 when I was in for massage therapy.

Congrats that you got in, that's great!! I start a CNA training course on September 20th, it lasts for 4 weeks... I am very nervous. Like many others, this is also a big career change for me. I am going from being a hairstylist (which I absolutely love, the pay just isn't that great) to becoming a CNA. I am trying to remain hopeful that I can do all the work that comes along with being a successful CNA, but I am trying to stay positive!!! Good luck to all of you :)

Don't be nervous, calm down you will need your concentration to do the job well

I went to school for cosmetology as well but left after a year to pursue massage therapy. I did MT on the side for awhile but since the recession hit who has the extra money for that?

I think by being a hairstylist you're already ahead of the game a bit because that is a skill you can definitely use as a CNA when you're going through your grooming routines. Plus you already have good customer service skills built in from directly working with people over the years. A lot of people struggle in that area. They can blow through the technical skills in their sleep but ask them to start a conversation with a person and they stand there dumbfounded :uhoh3:

thank you very much "gymnut" you really have boosted my confidence. many people have told me the same thing you just did... maybe i should listen!! haha, thanks so much you really boosted my confidence :) i am not worried about talking to the people at all, i find myself wonderful with people. people have just told me how hard it is being a cna and filling my head with all different things to worry about!!!
