Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I am really glad now that my SummerII Math class was cancelled. I am now starting CNA Training to get that certification. I was going to go thru Continuing Education in the fall semester..that class was going to be every Saturday 8-5 till December. This way I will be done by July 26th. YEAH!!!!!:heartbeat:heartbeat:yeah::yeah:

I wanted to post about my 1st day of CNA school..:heartbeat

I have to say that our class is small..but we have a AWESOME group.

1 is a OBGYN RN from the Philippines

4 are College Pre Nursing students (including myself)

1 is waiting for acceptance into a LVN program

All of us are very focused in our lectures and very involved in class discussions

Specializes in Emergency.

Stick with that Filipina. Chances are she knows a few tricks as she's already a practiced RN. If you call her Ate' (Ah-teh) you'll get on her good side quick. It means roughly: older female with whom I respect. That is unless she's younger than you. Then she might take offense!

Either way, good luck!

Congrats! You'll like it. It is actually straightforward. I got an A for a credited Nursing assistant course which had 6 credits. :) That helped a lot to increase my GPA a bit. Make sure you pay attention to do good once you take the CNA state exam. July 11th was the day I took my CNA state exam and I am sure I failed the clinical skills, but I don't know if I passed the written part.

I had to take like 3 other course with this program and I got an A for all of them. See, even a person who earned all A failed.... :) I was too nervous.

Good luck to you!

That's nice! My class was awesome.. even though I was the only male in class.. but they were so nice to me.. very nice. I don't know their future yet.. but I am going for the BSN degree in nursing in the Fall 2012 if everything goes well. I need to take A&P1-2 and I need at least 2.8 and up GPA... Before I get to register that course, I need a score of 75 on the CPT (Reading comprehension) The answers are tricky.. :(

Why so nervous Edwardo??? I know some people do get nervous when taking exams or performing in front of someone...like stage fright ... just know they are there to observe you doing the proper steps --TAKE TEST out OF your memory ... just keep telling your self I know this , I got this , I am competent .. They are only observing what I have have been taught

Aw thanks! I am going to try what you said and see what happens. I am sure I will have more confident next time.

It takes 2 weeks to get the results. I really hope that I passed my written part so I can focus on the clinical skills.

I had nobody to practice with, so all I did was watch video. I know what to do next time. Pretty sure that I will get pulse again, so I will practice that. Where I take the test is easy! She said she will only give us the basic.. :)

I got easy ones: Handwashing, pulse, and dressing (weak side on left) I dressed the opposite.. so I know i failed. She didn't say anything.. but I am sure she was looking. Also, I think I counted wrong because i was so nervous... I had count 1 full minute with her.. not counting 30 sec and multiply that by 2. I will try my best not to be nervous... I am sure you'll pass on the first try if you're not that kind of a person who gets very nervous.

You will do fine!!! It is those that have a passion for what they do that can overcome any obstacles:nurse:

Good for you on going for that BSN !! Is there a certain area of nursing that you are drawn to??

only about 8 business days to go for you to get your CNA results!!! Have you started applying to any open CNA positions?? Are you going to try to work half time while going to school??

I'm going for the Nurse practitioner. Basically, I want to help people cure diseases,etc.. without medication at all.

I am a vegan who eats 100% healthy and I feel fantastic. :) I want to help people with diet, etc. that's why I am studying for nutritional coach after that. I actually got my results! So fast... I failed the clinical part, but passed the written (it was very easy) I was confused for the clinical part .. I was nervous too. I thought Pulse would be checked because I did bad.. and it wasn't :) I failed on indirect care and dressing. I was confused for the indirect care.. I forgot that I had to pretend that I was working with more residents.. so I waited at end to open curtain, place call light within reach,etc... instead of doing that after each skills. I am sure I will do better next time.

Well this has been a Fast 2 days ...I got a 88 on my 1st test

I am studying for my 2nd Test ..

It is tomorrow

I took my CNA class last summer & I was confident during the lecture portion of the class, but once I started clinicals, I was a nervous wreck. I took it with an, "it's now or never" kind of attitude.

I passed my clinicals & state test with flying colors. Then I ended up getting a job at the very hospital that I did my clinicals at.

I have been working there for almost a year now and I can honestly say I love what I do. I work in our Oncology unit and it could be very bittersweet. It becomes so easy to make connections with most patients but when their time comes and they pass, it is very difficult. It's probably the only part of my job that never got easier.

I wish all of you CNA's good luck in the future and your potential nursing careers :)
