Published

Hey Everyone.

I currently live in Maryland and I am moving to New Jersey. I have my CNA license and want to transfer it. However when I contacted New Jersey Board of Nursing they stated that I cant transfer and that I would have to start over.

Has anyone else have dealt with this problem?? I want to transfer it to New York also but Im not too sure. Anyone have any advice???

First NJ board of nursing does not certify nursing assistants only CHHA. You need to contact the department of health and senior services. How did you attain your CNA?

You keep your MD CNA and you use your training from MD to gain a CNA certificate in NJ (or whatever state)

Here's the process for the methods to become a CNA in NJ. It's after the nursing home administrator section

I went to the link you supplied and that was who I contacted. They stated that they do not accept MD nursing aid certification and 10 other states.

It's been a long while for me since I taught, but certain states' training curricula required some certain different specific topics (read extra hours here). Your Maryland program may not match (topic-for-topic and/or same # or less hours) as required for NJ.

There are other options to qualify. And if you pay for a class any LTC that hires you within a period of time must reimburse you.

Not to thread-jack here, but when I taught in public education, there is such a thing as National Board Certification: Once you put in all your blood, sweat, tears, and all of your free time, you could take an exam and attain certification accepted in all 50 states. Does such a thing exist for CNAs, LPNs, and RNs?

Not for CNAs. RN & LPN is a national exam. Around 30 states participate in the nursing license compact as long as you maintain residency in a compact state. It's a license for nurses not a board certification. CNA is a short vocational course not a board certification.

Lawyers, physicians, nurses, PT, OT and other professionals must apply for credentialing in each stage they wish to live and practice. Unlike AUS there is no national licensing board
