CNA program in S FL

Published

Does anyone know of any thorough CNA programs in Dade or Broward County? And I mean something really good - not one of those deals where they rush you through without really teaching you anything because they want your money. I was also told a few years ago that the state was going to mandate one year of training for nursing assistant courses and I was wondering if that had been implemented yet.

Hey Miwila, thanks for your resonse at first I was thinking about doing that the cost for PCT programs are too expensive so I have to take one class at a time for example the CNA program is around $300 so between that time I can save and [ay for the phlebotomy class and then the EKG...Basically I have to break the cost up and I find that you finish faster...sounds crazy but I need to start working in the hospital ASAP im itching to get in ans start doing something....ANYTHING LOL!!! I think it would also be a great experience for nursing school...im guessing

Alot of the programs will let you pay down the cost of the class as you go so you only pay a couple hundred up front. That's what I did.

I just started an evening CNA program in Broward at the Center for Career Training. Yesterday was my first day and I think the instructor is pretty good. It is a 2 month program with an externship and they give the state exam on site. Class size is pretty small and the hours are perfect.

Where is Broward at the Center for Career Training located...sounds good

Thanks Bumblebee you always give very good response...youre so cool :yeah:but I have one more question....do these hospital hire CNAs with no experience...Im planning doing the CNA course and get my phlebotomyand EKG certificate...what do think of that is it a waste of time ?

thanks;)

at my hospital they did take CNA's straight from school!!! I know a couple of cleaning ladies who became cna's and started working as patient care asisstants right away. and I know a couple of people who started working right away w/o experience.

There is a lady there now, who became a cna, is working nights and now will be going to respiratory therapy school--- they hired her w/o experience.

CNA course is great, and if you work anywhere, phlebotomy and EKG would be awesome ---- you might even be able to work at an office within the hospital.

At my hospital, we were not required to do phlebotomy or EKG, they have other people to do that :D

They do have a psych course that you can take after 3 months of employment that pays you $1 more per hour.

but I think that it's really good experience, and when you get to school, you will be comfortable with your patients during clinicals.

My hospital is pretty cool, I don't want to work at another hospital even if they pay me $2 more. I would leave for an office job later on when my baby gets big.

also at my hospital they LOVE nursing students!!

My friend who was a year into nursing school wanted to get a summer job, and she said she was having a hard time getting a job as a tech in other hospitals--

I told her to go to my hospital, she applied and got the job, and now she has been working there as an RN in the NICU.

My friend who quit nursing school, applied and got an interview there, they told him to fax over his first semester grades and of course he didn't because he quit nursing school--- he said that the hospital called him a few times for his grades so he could start working.

Okay I know the question was for Bumblebee but until she answers I can tell you from my experience it is tough for a CNA with no experience to find work in a hospital, especially in a job market as competitive as S FL. But if you're studying to be a CNA with phleb and an EKG why not just become a Patient Care Tech? They are CNA's trained to do phleb EKG and you'd probably be able to get a job in a hospital then.

It's not that hard to find a job as a CNA at a hospital. I know that at my hospital they hire CNA's w/o experience------- they hire RN's w/o experience into the NICU, cardiac intensive care, PICU, ER----- other hospitals want you to have experience.

At my hospital they encourage cna's to go to school, they have tons of continuing education classes for cnas to learn about childrens diseases, how to protect yourself from an unrully child, and give you full benefits even if you work part time.

There are almost always positions available because cna's come and go, sometimes they go back to school, sometimes they become RN's---- but they are hired all the time w/o experience.

thinking about it, I have never talked to a cna that has worked as a cna else where:icon_roll

thanks;)

do yourself a really big big big favor

if i was to go through the ma program again ...i would find a place that doesnt just get you through their prescribed course ... quick ---but help you pass the exam and help you get a job... once you pass -- these are 2 very important things

---

i passed my class high grades, my clinic didnt want to hire anyone and who blames them they get free help from the school ( they just wanted the free help ), the school placement center personel were never at their desk or too busy to return calls and when i graduated it was october which meant if the school let me out in august i could have signed up for exam ..but i missed signing up for the exam til the following year ...

mcfatter only cared about the money, as far as the medical assistant courses go...

i see courses out there for medical assistants that will actually get you rma registered medical assistant exam before you leave the course. that is where i am going ....in 2009. that shows me that they care abou their students not just the money.

the first time i went through this ordeal was through financial aid through florida unemployment office as a dislocated worker from layoffs... so it didnt cost me anything... except still unemployed. no one will hire unless you are certified or registered... and you have to speak a 2nd language... its impossible being unemployed.

so this time i am taking money out of my 401k to do this 2nd time ... wish me luck.

i am enrolling for the 2nd time in another school to do it right this time... yeahhhh... so my advice and really look into the school before committing....

[[knock, knock]] Hoping to revive this Thread!! I had some questions myself. I too, am interested in going the CNA route to get my feet wet, in a sense, while in pursue of my RN Degree at BC..

Miwila, did you ever start on the CNA Program, if so, where and what was it like?

BumblebeeRN or labrador4122, years later are your views of your hospital still the same? And what hospital are you referring too?

Bonafide, your views of McFatter are understandable.I had a friend that ONLY attended orientation for LPN and was turn off by the staff so much she decided to take another route to complete her classes. But for me HONESTLY rude people that aren't satisfied at their jobs don't discern me from my career goals.. I say since they are SO unhappy in their role, why not take a course in the same instution they work for and move on to something new? Lolz, IJS..

AnyhOoz, does anyone know what other schools offer CNA? The cost, Schedule? I'm looking for a school preferably in the SFL area (Broward & Dade Counties to be exact)..

http://www.cnatips.com/classes/nursing-assistant-fl.php

the page i sent gives a list of all the schools in broward county that offer cna. if you scroll all the way to the bottom, it gives you the option of looking up schools in miami. it seems to me most of these places don't have web pages so you'd have to call for info. vo-tech in pembroke pines has a web page, but they don't give a price. their class is six weeks long, meeting four days a week.

Where is Broward at the Center for Career Training located...sounds good

Did you ever find out where this was located. I am too looking for an evening/weekend CNA program either in broward or palm beach.
