I was a phlebotomist for many years. I think the experience I gained through the lab has benefited me in nursing school, however, I think going the CNA route would have been better in the long run.
The benefits of Phlebotomy over CNA is you will already be used to handling needles and sticking patients. You will learn a lot about the diagnostics tests and what they are used for. You will know the normal and abnormal values...etc...
But w/ CNA you have a LOT more patient and nurse contact. Being a Phleb. didn't prepare me for giving my first bed bath...lol. Being a Phleb. didn't prepare me for changing my first adult diaper. Being a Phleb. didn't prepare me how to 'be there' for the patient...etc...
And I don't know about in your area, but in mine, the pay scale for CNA (PCT) is slightly higher.

There is CNA Training located at Dunbar high school through the community school it's 10 weeks long, 2 nights a week for like $144.00, I'll do a search for the contact information and I'll get back to you. I do know that their background check day is coming up it's August 8th in the morning don't remember what time though, I'll look for my written information and I'll send it to you. I hope this helps! In the meantime you might do a search on this thread for CNA Training in DFW and see if it comes up I remember posting about this awhile back as well.

I took the course at Dunbar. It's a very good course and the instructors are both very nice and helpful. However, I have been certified since November, 2006 and am still unemployed. Go figure.

Paris Junior College in Sulphur Springs is having a 2 week winter-mester CNA class for about $400, it starts Dec. 14
The class at Dunbar is really good! I would suggest this program to anyone interested in taking a CNA course.
I just tested today and I passed now I'm just waiting for my license to come in the mail to me.
Let me know if you'd like information on it.

The class was great, I loved it.
The instructor I had was real good, she told us exactly how it was going to be when we tested for our certification and she told us exactly what we needed to know and worked with an extra day after the class was over to make sure that we were ready for the test.
Now we'll see how easy it's going to be for me to find a job.
