I am a CNA and have been since 2002. Now I want adifferent challenge and work in a more stable evviroment wher you have a better idea of what is gonna happen on you shift. I wanna work in a Medical office.I know that a CNA can do clerical and back office duties. I am taking trainig at home from a CD I bought of of Ebay:, Basic Medical Terminology. It also has dvd, video billing & coding modules on it. I KNOW IT WONT MAKE ME CERTIFIED but, It DOES give me the insight on what is expected and the skills you perform. Why id it that we are not getting hired for positions in a medical office when WE CAN do the job....its just that we are not certified as a MA.:angryfire:idea:

I'm in FL. There are ads every day for CNA/MA. I'm an RMA-it means I have certification but my credentials are RMA. Most of the offices I have interviewed in have electronic medical records or are converting soon. I would say having strong computer skills and being an experienced CNA would look good on a resume. My last position was previously held by a CNA. They trained her on the computer and other areas where CNA's are not trained. I was also trained to work electronic records since it wasn't part of my training. It bugs me that CNA's are hired for an MA position! The time and $$$ I could have saved.

Plenty of places will hire people who are not trained, certified or registered to be medical assistants. I think that the training you are doing in addition to your CNA skills would be helpful. Just keep in mind, though, that most of them work without medical, prescription, or dental benefits. Many of them do learn alot, and are the doctor's right hand.
I know but, since I am not the 'Main bread winner' and I am just a supplimental income to help out on some bills. He has me with great ins. at his job and 2 life policies...im not worried about benifits right now.

Can CNA's in Fl do all the skills an MA does. i mean in Il they can do injectons, blood draws and EKG's, etc... Just curious?
I just wish I had luck finding CNA/MA in Macon, GA. and that they were willing to hire me and I can do "in-office training.Whats so wrong about hiring a CNA for a medical office. I just wish I could find an opening. IF there are any of you that work in Macon....help me out.

I have a question, as a CNA are you taught injections and phlebotomy? The reason I ask is that when I was working as an RMA (I did go to school and take the certification exam) I had to do both on a daily basis. I worked in an OB/GYN office and gave injections many times a day from flu shots to Depo Provera to Rhogam. On a lesser basis Betamethosone and Rocephin. We just started giving Progesterone.
I also worked in the lab filling in for the girl who worked in there as needed. But often to help her out we would draw a glucose if the time went off and the pt. was in the room.
I bring this up because maybe this is training you may need to look into. But I don't know about your area maybe Dr. 's in you area don't require you have these skills.
OR--- you may know them as a CNA and if so.. oops! I don't think the ones in my area do injections, but you never know I am wrong often!!
Good luck finding a job as a MA in any case.
