CNA first job offer!!

Published

Hello,

I just got offered a job as a CNA at a hospital. I got offered a job on the telemetry unit and the med/neph unit. Can anyone tell me what their day is like on either floor? Also, advice on which floor I should choose.:) Thank you!

Hello! Well, I cant tell you which to choose without knowing you personally. However, I am a CNA on a tele/neuro floor and LOVVVVE it. My night is always random. But goes like this mostly....1900: report. 1930-2000 reposition/safety checks. 2100, safety rounds, 2200 V/S and repositioning/I&O, 2300 safety checks, 0000 repositioning, repeat, etc. basically, the standard is reposition q2h, hourly rounding for safety, and vitals q4h. Now, in a perfect world, that sounds easy. Butttttt, even at night, we have patients ringing the call lights and they still need help with ADL's, some of them are total care, some require VS more often than q4, etc. so, it really just depends on how many patients are on the floor and what their needs are. Also, you will collect stool/urine samples, and for the incontinent patients, making occupied beds and doing bed baths often. On average on we have 7+ pts each so depending on how we are staffed can effect everything also. Some nights are manageable and stress free, some nights seem like a total DISASTER. Biggest advice for you, make sure everyone is safe before doing a task. If a patient is very heavy, ask someone to help you. Do not attempt to do it alone. LOL. BUT, i always leave feeling happy! Good luck to you!
