CNA course and Piercings

Published

good afternoon all. i start my cna class this weekend and was wondering if i could leave my nose stud in until it is time for clinicals in a couple months. i know i have to take it out for that, but what is the opinion of the group on a student with facial piercings? am i setting myself up to me looked down on from day one and just need to take them out? is there a policy in the skills lab that they have to be out? the class is a ppcc in co, but any advise is appreciated. thanks.

I have a labret, a nostril piercings, and a few highly visible tatoos. I've never been asked to take the piercings out or cover the tats.

The residents at work love them. They're always grabbing my arms to check out my ink and telling me how pretty my facial jewelry is. It's no more unhygenic than the people who have ear piercings or wear wedding bands.

Yea I agree with you. I have my bellybutton pierced so I know you have to cleanse your piercings at least a couple of times a day in order to keep them from getting infected. I dont think the piercing thing was in affect at my facility before but in the last couple of years they were bought by a pretty big company so its the company's rules being enforced. Still I feel a little bad for one girl at my job, she just got the Monroe piercing a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if you can put something in it to keep the hole open?

Yes, they have clear retainers, and you may be able to find some flesh tone as well. That may be an option for her to keep it open, but not have visible jewelry at work.

Thank god my lip piercing won't close.. I also have a septum, which is easy to hide... I will be getting a few noticeable tattoos so I will just wear long sleeves if possible...I would take out a nose piercing while in the class or whatever.. as I would do with my lip piercing. But since my septum can hide, I won't be taking that out.
