CNA to ADN - anyone having luck getting a job that way?

Published

I'm considering trying to find work as a CNA while in school, for the contacts and experience. Has anyone found good luck going this route?

*Edit: Sorry, I'm in Austin. Thanks!

I do not know about in Austin, but in the DFW area I worked as a nurse extern, which turned out to be a glorified PCT position (hospital) and yes, it did lead to me getting three interviews in that hospital and two job offers.

Thank you! I'm really nervous about the job market being so bad, but at 25, I can't keep messing around, and I've got to go to school for something. I've applied to nursing programs half-heartedly before, but was never accepted due to either missing pre-req's, or rolling admissions programs that were full before the deadline.

My former coworker was a CNA at my workplace for three years while pursuing her BSN degree. Once she received her RN license, my workplace agreed to promote her to an RN.

Therefore, working as a CNA is a potential way to get your foot in the door. However, not everyone can handle the work because it is very physical, smelly, and full of hazards.

Not to mention exhausting and hard on one's back. ;)
