Clueless Wound Care Nurse!!!!

:confused: Hi! I'm an new wound care nurse at my facility, and i have a question regarding Accuzyme. I am currently using it on one of my res. open blisters, he has a bunch of slough over the wound bed, and it is draining quite a bit. The edges that surrond the wound bed are white and kind of boggy looking.

My question is- can is still use the Accuzyme, but at the same time also use a Maxorb (Calcium alginate) dressing to help with all the drainage?

Do you have a wound care nurse consult available to your facility for referral of troubleshooting? Sometimes LTC and other facilities like home health hire a nurse consult for sending online pics via digital cameras to for suggestions on product use. It is very helpful as there are a lot of products on the market and lots of wounds simply do not respond as we hope that they will with each complex case of nutrition, hydration, meds., circulation, etc. Hope this helps a bit. Don't know if calcium alginate is contraindicated in the adjunct use of the enzyme ointment or not. Never used the two in concert before myself and have done a fair amount of wound care.

HOw about putting vasaline or A & D around the wound edges to prevent maceration and keepthe good tissue protected. I would use an absorbative secondary dressing to help remove some of the drainage.
