Hello all!! I have searched this topic and haven't found anything. I have an old DUI from 2012, I have completed all classes and even probation and have had no incidents, not even traffic tickets, since then. I am due to start LVN school July 3rd and upon running my background, my school had me sign a waiver that states that based on my background check I have things on there that might prevent me from being able to attend clinicals which means that if I cannot attend clinicals I do not complete the program and therefore do no graduate or take NCLEX. I am going to hire an attorney to have this expunged and I know it takes a few months to have everything cleared out. My question is are clinical sites super strict with these types of charges? Should I go ahead and start the program and hopefully my conviction is expunged by the time we start clinicals? or should I revoke from the school and wait until everything is cleared? I live in CA by the way. Anyone out there with a similar experience and with a good outcome? Help!

I am in NY but I had an open DWI charge during my education and it was not a problem. I told my school ahead of time and they made it clear that as long as I did not have any Felonies on my record I could participate in clinicals.
Honestly it depends a lot on your school and the contracts they have with the clinical sites.
ok thanks for your comment. Hopefully I can participate in clinicals as well

I don't think a dui would hold you back from clinical. I had a dui and was still able to attend but honestly it didn't come up on my school background because it was so old.

You should be okay as long as there was no injury or car accident or a BAC higher than .2
It did show up on my background check for school and they had me sign a waiver that states that i might not be able to attend any clinical site because you know each site has its own rules =/
ok good! Thanks, there was no accident or anyone injured, they just pulled me over and my BAC was .08 exactly =/
