Hello Everyone,
I have just started my application with ISU for their LPN-BS Track program. I have not really read concrete answers as to where the clinical sites are in Los Angeles, CA so I decided to start a new thread specific to LA, CA students of ISU. Anyone here already have a clinical site? If so can you provide a list? Thanks alot!!!! :)

I was also wondering the same thing. I personally dont know anyone yet that has done the program yet. The idea is great because as you know our wait times here to get into any local community college is HORRIBLE. If you find out please post it here I am also really interested.

Those of us who are enrolled in the program ask the same question as you have asked every semester. The problem is those students in Calif are enrolled in the Sonoma State/ISU LVN to BSN program. It is exactly like the regular distant learing LPN to BSN program but with a few changes mandated by the CA BON. One of the rules is we Calif students cannot self place into a facility. We mustt provide the liaision names of places we wish to do our clinicals [of course by now, the liaision knows all the facilities that will or will not accept ISU students] and then we wait. Some have had great difficulty getting placed and have had to do lecture one semester and then clinical for one class the next semester and at the same time doing a clinical and lecture for another class that same semester. Some students don't get placed and have to wait a semester for placement. I have written about the problems with placement in CA, so you can do a search on my past posts. What is irksome, is ISU continues to accept Calif SSU/ISU LVN to BSN students and tells those students that all is well.
Someone asked about TCN. It has its use, but it is exhorbitantly expensive. I suggest doing your own readinng employing the free ISU study guide that shows the general areas that would be covered in the challenge exams and then make your own study guide with answers. Also, get a good RN NCLEX comprehensive study guide that reviews the subjects and has qustions/answers/rationales. If you do the review reading required for the challenge exam, make your own study guide with study questions, and read/answer the NCLEX study questions/rationales, you should do well without buying the study guides. However, if you have money to burn, by all means buy the guides. I did both; bought the guides and studied my own books. I was lucky as some of the questions on the exam were never covered or discussed in TCN study guides.

Another student, who just applied to the program, received a letter from the ISU nursing department dated in June 2012 from ISU:
"As a California student, I wanted to inform you that we are currently having a program review with the California Board of Registered Nurses, and therefore have to place a temporary hold on the application process until this review process has been completed. We have every reason to believe that this will only take approximately six to eight weeks, at which time we will resume the admission process into our program for the Fall 2012 semester."
No explanation what the "program review" is about or who is doing the review--ISU, the Calif BON or both. It has been over 8 weeks since the letter was sent out but, so far, ISU has remained silent.

So you found out. I had a friend tell me this also. That is why I decided to finish up my BA program and do the ELM out here in S. Cali. From what I was told by someone is that California is not to happy to have a school come in the state and take away money from their colleges. You best believe that these hospitals are bonded with the schools. I lost the testing fees to MHN exam. I asked if I could donate the test fees to a student in need but I got no reply. I hate that people are playing with peoples lives. I took most of my science classes online at Ivy tech. I am now going to have to repeat 3 of them.
I have a feeling that they are going to limit the amount of students they accept due to the clinical placement. Good luck to you all. :)
If you note the Calif program is through Sonoma State University--meaning that all Calif ISU students are also registere with SSU in the joint partnership. Thus, the program is through a Calif university.
Actually, there has been discussion about the issues between the Calif Board of RN and the ISU DL nursing program. Some has stated that it is probably an accreitation issue. I did a search on ISU in the National League of Nursing (the agency that does the accreditation). ISU was up for renewal a not long ago but they have another coming up. I note that ISU's upcoming renewl (about 2013) has a WARNING on their accreditation renewal. Wonder what that is about.
As far as the classes you took through Ivy Tech is a normal brick and mortor school, and your transcript will not say distant learning. Now, if the class you took requires a lab along with the lecture, that could cause you to have to retake the class somewhere else. Ivy Tech is accredited and you should be able to transfer your credits.

The issue in California (lack of clinical placement, the ISU program being out of CA BRN compliace on 6 issues, and ISU lying to the CA BRN when it was investigating student complaints) has been resolved. THERE IS NO ISU LVN TO BSN PROGRAM IN CALIFORNIA. The present program ends December 31, 2012 and there is no program to take its place.
If you are in California and took classes from TCN to get into the LVN to BSN program, go to the back of your contract. It should state that you will be refunded all fees paid to TCN if you are not accepted into the nursing program. Since there is no program in Calif, you will not be admitted in January 2013. TCN owes you a complete refund.

i am currently trying to get out of my contact with TCN, i found in my enrollment papers a form that i signed that simply states " Sonoma State University with Indiana State" since SSU is no longer in the picture i see this as a breeech of contract . any way i have to write a grievence letter and offer a solution to the problem. Thinking about seeking legal counsel for help with writting a letter.
