Clinic recommendations for required titers?

Per my pre-entrance health form, I will need titers draw for both Varicella IgG and Hep B (surface Ab). My PCP does not conduct these and as I am not currently in school I don't have a university health center to go to either.

Does anyone have recommendations for where I might go to take care of these in Orange County? Any urgent care center? Is it possible to call ahead and get an estimate of cost as well? Anyone who has had to take care of this for their nursing program, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! ;)

The vaccines can be expensive. I'd enroll in a easy class like kinisiology at a community college and just get them there. My doctor was going to charge $500 for the Hep B series but I only paid $90 (for all 3) at Saddleback College. You will have to pay for the units and health fee but in the end it might be cheaper than through a clinic. Call ahead and make sure that they offer what you need.

I'm not familiar with all of Orange County but maybe there is a county clinic where you can ask about pricing.

I have already had my vaccine series (when I was younger) and had chickenpox (Varicella) when I was younger, I just need blood drawn and titers read to determine my current Ab levels. I will only need to be vaccinated again if my Ab levels are lower than the requirement. I'll ask Saddleback if they do titers though, thanks for the reply.

Contact your county Health Dept for names of places in your area that can do the labs for you, they may also provide the service.

Your PCP should be able to draw the titers and send them out, it just entails drawing a blood specimen. Most physicians offices do not run labs in their office but send them out or can send you to the lab that they use. Think that they may have not known what these even were. Patients are gettting tests done on their livers all of the time, and hepatitis profiles are one of the tests.

They are just serology tests. Sounds like your provider's office is just not understanding what is needed to be done.

I knew I had all the required vaccinations; but, did not have a record of them too.

I went to my personal Dr. and told her what I needed. She wrote an order and sent me to a lab for the blood work. As soon as the reports came in I got them from my Dr.'s office.

I did not have health ins at the time so I had to pay for them... I think the tests were $70...

But, the charge will be different everywhere...

Good luck,

Mark

Even if you have had the vaccinations, they are still going to want to see titers. But as you have mentioned, it is just a very easy procedure, a simple lab draw.

Do you know that you cannot legally be "required" to have Hep B vaccines? You need to request a Declination form and sign it, and they will put it in your file. I have to sign one every year for my own job because I will not have the vaccine.
