Hello, I am the nurse manager at a clinic and I am the only RN. I have 2 LPN's and 11 MA's. We have 2 FP docs, one FP NP and 2 pediatricians. So, 5 RN's sounds pretty good to me, as I am all alone!
I do have excellent MA's, but it is not the same.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I too was a home health case manager before I did this, I have been at my clinic for a little over 2 years now. Feel free to PM me anytime!
I'm having trouble locating a site for clinic nurses. I believe I have looked high and low with no luck. So, I thought I'd try my luck here.I currently work in a reasonably small one. There are 2 Ped's MDs, 3 PA's, about 8 MD's. Seems like a lot of MA's,and 5 RN's, for the whole place. As you can imagine there is at least 1 RN off if not more. It is not uncommon for just 2 RN's to run the clinic. Full staffing is 6 RN's but the 1 that we had posted to another position and it has not been filled yet. Oh, yes, our manager is not an RN. Her story is that we are better staffed than many other places. This is a family practice clinic.
My question is how are other clinics staffed for RN coverage?
I've only worked in this area since last October. Before that I was in Home Health for 14 years. So I'm learning the ins and outs as I go.
If there are any other clinic nurses I'd like to hear from you. :)
I just recently left a clinic practice. We had 5 RN's, 6 LPN's, 2 MA's, 6 MD's (pediatrics, GP, general surgery, family practice {2}, internal medicine, ), 2 NP's. I am a nurse practitioner and this was a rural health clinic. I averaged seeing 30/day so you can imagine how many the MD's saw. We had to crunch staffing sometimes when illness and vacations came along.
Thanks guys for your notes. Today I had some interesting visits. Along with everything else a guy came in because awhile back he had been treated for a boil on his butt. In the mean time he lost his medicle coverage. He had guaze packing under his skin. The packing was never removed when his coverage was stopped so his skin grew over it!
I never know what will come in, what an adventure!

I bet your job can be interesting. For some reason we don't have NP's at our clinic. There are some at the Med center though.
It's weird, the longer I work at this clinic the more I like it.
This clinic is pretty small but a new one is being built closer to my home and will be larger. Maybe similar in size as you discribed yours as. I am really looking forward to working there.
