  1. Hi everyone! I don't like to ask about salary too much on here, but I am really having trouble finding anything. I recently took the certified diabetic educator exam, and I am fairly certain I passed it. My supervisor has asked me to research salaries for CDE's so I can get a better idea of what would be a reasonable raise when I get my CDE. Can anyone out there who has any information at all on CDE salaries, please let me know? I would be very thankful!!!!!
  2. Give your dog to a rescue organization because you have to work? Give me a break! The OP is obviously a loving, caring, responsible pet owner. Most people who have pets do have to work, and while 12 hours is a long time, she is home 3-4 days a week with them and she is working nights, so they will be ok. I have three dogs and when they are home alone, they do great with a dog door to go in and out as they please. I also make sure they stay in my great room/kitchen area, as it is all tile, so any accidents are easy to clean up. Good luck!
  3. Hi there, Does anyone have any good study guides that they used to prepare for their CDE exam? Or any tips at all?? I am getting ready to take it in October and would really love to hear about anyone's experiences. Thanks! Aimee
  4. Hello, I am the nurse manager at a clinic and I am the only RN. I have 2 LPN's and 11 MA's. We have 2 FP docs, one FP NP and 2 pediatricians. So, 5 RN's sounds pretty good to me, as I am all alone! I do have excellent MA's, but it is not the same. Let me know if you have any other questions, I too was a home health case manager before I did this, I have been at my clinic for a little over 2 years now. Feel free to PM me anytime!

Hi there! I am very sorry for your loss. I went through the same experience about 2 years ago and I would definately recommend the d and c to you. I was scheduled for a d and c but a few days before my body started to miscarry naturally..it was the worst pain I have ever had, I was crying and screaming and had never felt anything like it..and it went on for a few days. It was truly awful and then on top of it all an US showed not everything had been expelled so I had to have the d and c anyway! Recovery from that was fairly easy and nothing compared to what I had already been through. Just my 2 cents!
  6. HI there! Don't despair, I have the exact job you described. I am the nurse manager for a community health center. I work 4 10 hour shifts a week, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. We are federally funded and therefore are closed all major and minor holidays..we are never open on nights or weekends. My pay could be better, but I have also seen a lot worse. I work with patients doing education classes, some triage and whatever else comes up. I also manage a staff of 15, mostly LPNs and MAs. I am often sent out of town on business trips and have been to some really great places I never would have seen otherwise. I do not have my BSN, just my AA, but I have been nurtured here to become a great manager and you sure can't beat the hours! I fell into it by accident, but there have to be other jobs out there like this one!
  7. I know just how you feel, but we had a patient a few years ago who shot himself in the room during night shift. Same thing, older male, cancer. I will not go into great detail, but suffice it to say it was a very traumatic experience for all involved and the three of us on the floor that night suffered tremendous guilts and what ifs. My thoughts are with you, I know how hard it is, but you sound like a great and caring nurse and please know there is nothing you could have done.
  8. Hello, I am a community health nurse manager. I work at a clinic that serves primarily the Hispanic population. I have to admit, I fell into the postion by accident and only applied because of the great hours and setting. But now that I have been here almost a year, I can truly say that I love my job. It is very challenging at times, especially since most of our patients cannot even afford food, much less medications, glucometers, xrays, etc. Of course we have many resources to help them, but it is never enough. My job involves a lot of patient education, triage, I am the supervisor of 15 employees, I attend many inservices and public seminars....I have been sent out of town on many business trips. I help with all populations, we run a diabetic clinic once a month, also do a lot of asthma teaching and TB teaching...as much of our population is from Mexico, there is a high incidence of TB. If you have any further questions, please let me know!
  9. At my facility, LPNs cannot hang blood or give IV push meds...but they do all their own assesments, IV starts, IV fluids and some IV antibiotics and K riders...they can also do PICC dressing changes.
  10. Sorry, I hit send too many times!
  11. Hello, No, a CDE must be an RN, NP, pharmacist or nutritionist. There be one two other things too, but I do a professional license is required first.
  12. Hello, I just went to a seminar on telemedicine. The people that spoke have a good website, so I would try going there and seeing if it helps. http://www.telemedicine.arizona.edu/ADVICE/ Hope that helps!!
  13. I know what you mean...when the man shot himself at my hospital, all I kept thinking was what if someone was going into the room at that exact moment and got hurt?? Very scary, thank goodness no one else was invlolved
  14. Where I work a few years ago a man shot himself in the middle of the night. Never heard how he got the gun in...was a med surg floor. Very sad for man and family, but also very hard time for myself and the other 2 nurses on the floor that night. I will never forget every minute of it, but I try to put myself in the patients shoes...how desperate he must have been to do something like that, and he must have felt there was truly no other option for him.
