Need some advice. Does anyone have experience working in a foot clinic? It deals mostly with foot ulcers related to diabetes, chf, that type of thing. Lots of dressing changes and nail care. Not the most glamorous job. BUT, the hours are perfect; days only, with weeknights and weekends off. I am working casual in post partum right now but the hours are terrible for child care needs. I only have weekends, nights, and no one wants to babysit early mornings or late nights. My spouse also works weekends and early mornings, plus we have no family around to help take care of our child. I also am only guaranteed hours until end of August, then in September it is up in the air. I also feel exhausted working the nights and then taking care of my one year old.
Anyone else been in this situation and have to take a less glamorous job, but with great hours?? If you had experience in a foot clinic, did you like it?

I have to say you may not think it is glamorous but I am sure you know how valuable a clinic that that is. Also, I suspect you might get to establish some excellent nurse-patient relationships. Wound management can be quite interesting.

What about nursing, exactly, IS glamorous? Nursing is one of the least glamorous professions I can think of.
The beauty of office nursing is the high-quality patient teaching you can provide--teaching that would be virtually impossible to give on the hospital floor. Also, as the previous poster said, you will get to work with patients on an ongoing basis, which can be very rewarding (or frustrating, depending on the patient).
If patient teaching appeals to you and the job schedule works well for your family, I think you can find clinic nursing to be "more than meets the eye".
Good luck to you.

when I went inot nursing 15 years ago, it certainly wasnt for the "glamour". Hell, nursing is as far away from glamorous as you will get. Personally- I would work at Macy's if I wanted glamour! Just my opinion........
Thanks for the responses. Some good points. I may have been misunderstood by using the word 'glamorous', as we do all sorts that most wouldn't think of doing on a daily basis. I just never considered working with feet as part of my career path.

i think you should give the clinic a try. child care issues can be very stressful and at least with a normal m-f you will be rested and have a predictable schedule. good luck and keep us posted.
