Hi all,

I've recently been looking for a new job, nothing has really intrigued me to leave my current job until something this week. I currently have been in the hospital 7 years, I work in a pedi Ed, 3 12 hour shifts, ALL evenings, every 3rd weekend and of course holidays. I always thought working off shift holidays etc comes with the territory of nursing. This week I have an interview an for a clinic job.. Within the same company so it would be a lateral move, 7 miles from my house. No weekends, no holidays, day shift. The hospital is 14 miles from Me. My main thing of course is..money. This position is a 32 hour one- 4 8s, I currently work 36. My insurance would go up but I also wouldn't have to pay for parking at this clinic so that almost evens out. Bc I work all evenings I'm going to miss that Differential I always get, and of course the hours are less. On the other hand I'm really looking for more of a life balance. My mom died unexpectedly last year and since then my whole outlook has changed... I hate missing holidays, I just moved in with my boyfriend and we are planning a life together and not being home for dinner stinks, also I'm much more of a morning person. What does everyone think? What would you do?

Sounds like you are looking forward to a more balanced life/work schedule so you are leaning towards taking this. I would do some investigation in terms of the expectations for the new job and the training provided for your new position. Sometimes, we assume clinic jobs are not challenging, but every job has challenges. Some RN's actually coordinate everything that goes on in the clinic, including supervision of other healthcare employee's, budgets and so on. Ask for a job description if available. The salary does not appear to be a major issue and if you want a better work/ life balance, you may have to take a little less pay. I think overall, it sounds good because it's still within the institution you currently work in.

"My main thing of course is..money." Not any more. Since your mother's death.. you realize there are much more important things.

Hoping you get the clinic job and can enjoy a better LIFE.
